ATOMIC FORCE Update:

Hi Team,

Atomic Force has been booked to come home on the first available flight from NZ. That is hopefully next Tuesday or the following Monday.

The horse will head to Wild Oaks and have one week on the water walker and then head up to Darren's stables.

Atomic Force is now restricted to racing in Weight For Age (WFA) events or Set Weights & Penalties (SWP) events. He is weighted out of Handicaps and Quality Handicaps as a dual Gr1 Winner.

In Australia (not including WA or Tas) there are 26 races in the racing calendar spread out over 12 months at WFA or SWP.

However, 4 of these races are on the same day as 4 others in different states. So naturally that takes 4 races out of the available pool. So technically we only have 22 races in which to target.

Then we have another issue where the calendar is back to front in the fact it does up to 1200m then straight back to 1000m instead of the other way around which is natural progression. So when we look at those that qualify but actually do not suit then we get down to just 18 possible races in 12 months across from Qld to SA. Hardly ideal but what we have to deal with.

7 Group 1 races (6 WFA , 1 SWP)

9 Group 2 races (7 WFA , 2 SWP)

5 Group 3 races (5 WFA , 0 SWP)

5 Listed races (2 WFA , 3 SWP)

26 Races = 20 x WFA and 6 x SWP

At 1200m 18 x 1200m, = 14 WFA & 4 SWP

At 1100m 3 x 1100m, = 2 WFA & 1 SWP

At 1000m 5 x 1000m. = 4 WFA & 1 SWP

Therefore as you can see above, there are not a lot of races available to him and of course he is taking on the best of the best. We have to be smart about where we place him to try and side step the better runners. No point running good races and not finishing in the pointy end of the prizemoney. We need to take on the B graders if possible.

Having a view that we wanted to give him a long spell of 3 months to recharge his batteries, the fact is we were concerned he would get fat inside and being an older horse may struggle to regain his fitness putting undue pressures on his legs. Mindful of this, we have though about possible options.

First Up : We have 2 races in mind for him to resume in which are 10 weeks away from when Darren gets him back into work. Both on the same day and both in opposite directions. They are on 12/5 the $400,000 BTC CUP Gr1 WFA 1200m at Doomben or on the same day 12/5 the $350,000 SAJC GOODWOOD Gr1 SWP 1200m.

Then we have nothing on the programme for 9 weeks. However if the horse needs extra time or something goes wrong we will side step the SA or Qld trip and wait for next race to start off in below.

Second Up : We can target the perfect race for him which is on 14/7 at Caulfield the $100,000 VATC Sir John Monash Stakes SWP 1100m

Third Up : Two weeks later at Caulfield is the $125,000 Bletchingly Stakes WFA 1200m.

Both these races suit as it is still winter the tracks are soft in Melbourne and the good horses are still not on the scene.

We then have several choices which way to head with him.

We can stay in Melbourne after the Bletchingly and head across to Morphettville for the $115,000 Spring Stakes Gr3 1200m WFA or on the same day in Sydney is the $125,000 Gr3 Missile Stakes 1200m WFA

Or we can sidestep both races and wait another 3 weeks and head back to the race he won last year at the end of August The Heath a $100,000 LR at SWP over 1100m.

Then there is a heap of different ways to go as we head towards a grand final of the $1,000,000 PATINACK CLASSIC on Emirates Day in Melbourne Cup Carnival.

HOWEVER

We have not lost site of another major international race in SINGAPORE to be held on 20 May known as the Kris International Flyer. This is a race worth currently $800,000 AUD on the exchange rates with $450,000 AUD to the winner.

We certainly could be ready for this race in the time we have 12 weeks by giving him a couple of barrier trials.

Therefore we will nominate for this race which closes on 7 March and monitor his progress.

ATOMIC FORCE Update:

Hi All,

Atomic Force was ridden this morning in heat 7 at the trials by leading jockey Nash Rawiller and Nash was delighted by the horse's efforts. Nash commented upon returning to the stalls that he (Atomic Force) felt 'terrific' and 'he had not gone backwards at all'. He said 'he is strong and going great'. Nash was keen to ride Atomic Force in NZ in the Railway Stakes Gr1 if the HK trip doesn't come off.

He felt super under saddle and if asked could have easily gone on to win the trial by a long way. It took Nash a furlong to pull Atomic Force up such was the horse's keenness to work.

Rawiller never allowed the Darren Smith trained galloper to come off the bit and held the horse together under a stranglehold throughout the run to win untouched by an unextended 3/4 of a length in an ultra impressive display.

The horse jumped brilliantly and was able to lead throughout the trial.

It was always our intention to give him a soft trial and just keep him ticking over.

ATOMIC FORCE Update:

Congratulations on his fabulous win last Saturday. It was much deserved and please find below a news story detailing all of his success. Darren reports him to have pulled up terrific and has eaten everything up since. He has been bucking around and is clearly feeling super in himself.

A blistering turn of foot from the 200m mark to the winning post under simple urging of hands and heels from leading rider Damien Oliver, signaled the arrival south of the boarder of Dynamic sprinter ATOMIC FORCE and put his peers on notice that he will be a Force to be reckoned with in all the sprint events he contends over the carnival.

ATOMIC FORCE cruised to victory in race 7, the SLICKPIX STAKES over 1100m LR under Set Weights and Penalties conditions running a race record 1:02.72 seconds scoring by 1 length x 1/2 length defeating Testa My Patience and Chosen To Fly.

The Darren Smith trained ATOMIC FORCE a 6yo gelding (Danehill Dancer / Show Of Force), was a $50,000 Dynamic Syndications purchased yearling from the Magic Millions in 2007. He added to his awesome racetrack resume on Saturday afternoon 27/8 at Caulfield in what was his first attempt at an anti-clockwise circuit. He sizzled over the 1100m from an wide draw carrying top weight of 57.5kgs and spotting all his opposition weight, when under basic hands and heels over the final 50m, he recorded a dominant but soft one length win stopping the clock at a very fast 1:02.72 seconds which was the fastest time recorded for the race traditionally know as The Heath Stakes run over 1100m under Set Weights and Penalties conditions.

His racetrack career now reads:

31 starts = 9 wins, 6 seconds, 5 thirds and $690,850 prizemoney.

The Group 1 Galaxy winner in the Autumn made a terrific return to the track a fortnight ago when under the unsuitable weight scale of a Quality Handicap he was forced to carry 60.5 on a 53.0kg limit.

He was a weighted good thing in this Caulfield event where he carried 57.5kg under a 55.0kg weight scale less 2.0kg for mares. This was for him a technical 5.0kg turnaround. His class prevailed here as was evidenced by his easy victory.

Damien Oliver came out of the jockey's room pre-race and had the same tactics determined as we too had devised. We anticipated that the favourite Avenue wearing blinkers for the first time and drawn on our outside, would come out fired up and may over race early. Our plan was simple enough. With or good gatespeed we would work the first 50m to force Avenue wide and therefore having to work double time to cross us, which should get her fired up. Then we would ease back and track over on her tail to get a cart along and once balanced up in the straight, at about the 300m then switch out off heels towards her outside and challenge. We believed with our superior fitness, turn of foot and strength we would be able to claim her.

Things panned out perfectly and everything went to script. It's a lovely feeling when things work out.

Atomic Force is an 1100m specialist and at this trip with the exception of being in an era dominated by Black Caviar, it's hard to find another horse with a record to match.

He has raced 14 times at 1100m = 6 wins, 2 seconds, 3 thirds, 2 fourths.

Most in the media believe him to be a wet track horse because of his domination in the Gr1 Galaxy in the heavy going however his good track form is equally as awesome with 13 starts = 5 wins, 2 seconds, 2 thirds. So wet or dry he's the real deal.

Damien Oliver was interviewed by TVN'S Bruce Clark post race and was impressed with Atomic Force's acceleration:

She (Avenue) really hums along, we sat on her back and they were really going quickly and he really went past her quick so he showed a great turn of foot this horse, Oliver said.

He has got good, genuine speed. He worked well here on Tuesday and he switched on even more today on race day.

Post race trainer Darren Smith was interviewed :

The horse has come back really well from last campaign and today showed he can do it on top of the ground as well on a wet track, Smith said.

At home, when working the opposite way, he went straight on to the right leg so we were pretty confident today, Smith said.

There were probably no A' graders here but he still won well and he will go to the Valley (McEwen Stakes WFA 1000m) in three weeks.

Dynamic horseman Darren Smith has done a fabulous job with ATOMIC FORCE. He has turned him around from a city stable reject into one of the top sprinters in Australia and honoured recently by being nominated for the NSW Racehorse Of The Year Awards in the provincial horse category (running second to Hay List) and now has been nominated for the Australian Racehorse of the Year Awards in the Sprinters category.

This is a tremendous honour for a provincial trained sprinter. Naturally Black Caviar will be the winner of this section when the awards are announced in a few weeks time however to be nominated is a great reward for the horse. The nominations for this prestigious division were: Atomic Force, Beaded, Black Caviar, Eagle Falls, Hay List, More Joyous, Response, Sepoy, Sincero, Star Witness.

A lot of forward planning has gone into this Melbourne trip with the Slickpix Stakes as our main target because the race conditions were so suitable and now we get a throw at the stumps for the McEwen Stakes at WFA at Moonee Valley over 1000m as his next start as a lead in to the Gr1 Manikato Stakes over 1200m.

After that we will review our position as to whether to push on towards the Patinack Classic in late October or sidestep that event for a possible trip to Hong Kong for the major sprint in December or even a trip across to NZ for a crack at the Gr1 Railway. Its an exciting time for owners as most get to live their dream and enjoy the experience of owning a good horse.

Hi All,

He will be racing tomorrow at Caulfield and is in race 7 on the programme being the Listed event over 1100m timed to go at 4:08pm. He has been allocated saddlecloth #1 and has drawn barrier 11/13. Damian Oliver is booked to ride and the horse will carry 57.5kg. The track is expected to be a good 3 for racing tomorrow and there are two early scratchings in both Obsidian Dragon and Centexpress.

Darren has this afternoon reported all to be good with Atomic Force and we look forward to tomorrow. He has settled into the Melbourne environment very well by all reports and has adopted ok to going the opposite direction. Damian Oliver was happy with his work on Tuesday and they haven’t had to do much with him since.

They do not run races on paper but statistically Atomic Force is very well placed in this event, it has always been the primary target race for the preparation. These are the best conditions he will meet his opposition at all preparation. We do keep in mind two vital things. Firstly his second up form not nearly as good as his first up form, which is a statistical fact and secondly he has got the visitors draw and bad barriers make it so much harder, especially in elite company.

Caulfield is a funny track and takes a bit of getting used too. Horse’s when having their first race around the circuit can get a little lost.

Looking at the race on paper Anabaa’s Legacy is expected to lead on the fence from Avenue on her outside, Chosen To Fly drops into the box seat with Grand Duels on its outside on the back of Avenue.  Acorns is next the fence with Atomic Force on its outside with a beautiful trail with a length back to Testa My Patience.  Then comes two lengths away Swiss Rose on the fence with Stanzout on its outside with Panipique and Vigor back last throughout.

Hopefully by being there all week and the horsemanship skills of Damian Oliver will offset most of the abovementioned issues. He is the class animal in the race and is fit and well, we are pleased with him. The track is in good order but will not be rock hard which should suit him ideally. We are as confident as we can be with the horse and the old story of luck in running will play its part, in a tough race with many chances on paper. We are though certainly one of the main hopes.

ATOMIC FORCE Update:

Hi All,

Congratulations on his fabulous win. It was absolutely marvelous!!!! I hope you all partied hard on Saturday.

You will have since noted that we put in a nominated for the Hallmark Stakes this Saturday. This was though just to have a look and see and we obviously pulled the right reign going to the Galaxy as we would have gotten a lot of weight in the Hallmark having now seen the field. As a Group 1 winner if he went around this Saturday in that field he would now be allocated we think about 59kg - 61kg.

The horse will have his next start in the Victory Stake a Group 2 WFA 1200m event at Eagle Farm on 30th April at Eagle Farm. We feel he is better placed at WFA where competitors have to carry the same weight as him as opposed to a quality Hcp, giving weight away.

The horse pulled up a absolute treat Darren reports, going for a swim on Sunday and he also licked out his feed bin. Darren commented that he is so bright in himself that he could have started him again today. As a result we are happy to continue on this preparation.

We have also just heard from the handicappers this afternoon that he has been made a ratings 106 for his win and we look to have gotten off a bit light here.

Yee Haa! What a day! Winning Group 1 races is what owners dream about. When dreams comes true, the emotions are surreal. On a rainy, gloomy day at Randwick, Dynamic Syndications, Trainer Darren Smith and Jockey Tim Clark delivered the ultimate adrenaline rush for a fantastic team of owners when high quality sprinter ATOMIC FORCE (Danehill Dancer / Show Of Force) gave nothing else a hope as he slogged through the mud and slush of a Heavy 10 surface to record a dominant 2.8 lengths win over the talented Pat & Wayne Webster trained Thankgodyourhere.

Emotions ran wild in the enclosure. Tears rightly flowed amongst hugs and kisses and part owner Steve McCrea made the highlights reel with the best rendition of Fred Astaires Singing in the Rain you will ever see!

Wow ! I still can't believe the emotions of the day as I sit here at the keyboard typing this story.

Where do I start ? Earlier last week it was decided to have a crack at the Group 1 based upon several factors but most importantly the handicapper. We believed the right race was next weeks Hall Mark Stakes however we were concerned with what we new of our opposition that, under Quality Handicap Conditions, Atomic Force would be given a high weight in the race as a rating 98 horse in an event requiring a minimum 58.0 kg top weight. We considered the Galaxy knowing that, under those handicap conditions, Atomic Force would only get 51.0 kgs.

We are in the business of selling dreams. Owners want to win races but naturally every owner dreams of Group 1 wins. Simply you can't win them sitting in the stable. You have to compete. Atomic Force had earned a chance to compete against the best around to see where he was in the pecking order. So when the nominations came out and we looked into the form of our competitors, we were happy to accept. We came up with barrier 6 which was the first time Atomic Force had received a fairly good marble in many starts. More importantly the speed map had us sitting just behind the speed battle in a prominent position but with cover for the first time in 4 runs. We started to become a little excited as we believed the horse was going very well and looked ideally placed on the limit with this draw.

The early market had the horse at $36.00 and in some corporate bookies $51.00 was bet.

We believed he was a true $10.00 - $12.00 chance.

Darren Smith was confident that the horse had held his condition of his past three runs. We were satisfied that Atomic Force could run somewhere in the mix but it was a big jump to Group 1 company. We would have been satisfied with any position where we could win prizemoney. Our owners went into the race knowing they had a fit and healthy horse in good form. Two runs earlier Atomic Force had won the Maurice McCarten Stakes 1100m LR on a Heavy 8 track.

Strange how things work out. We went to sleep on Friday night with a horse at $36.00 in the pre-post market and during the night the heavens opened and the track was put out as a Heavy 8 and Atomic Force was already into $18.00 and firming. By post time the track had downgraded to a muddy, sloppy Heavy 10 and Atomic Force was a firming market mover to start at $10.00.

40 minutes earlier, our rider Tim Clark had brilliantly ridden Sacred Choice to win the Doncaster and our rider came out to greet us fully switched on with adrenalin pumping. Instructions were simple. You know what we want to do. Tucked in behind the speed to the turn and let rip up the running. The rest is history.

Atomic Force jumped well and gained the gun run in the one/one position until the turn behind Keen Commander and Avenue. As they turned into the straight Tim drove Atomic Force between the pair and in a twinkling he was in front. At the 350m Tim knuckled down and the horse responded dashing clear. By the 200m nothing else was a hope. Tim drove the horse to the finishing post well clear of its opposition with just Thankgodyourhere making some ground late wide out on the track.

Scenes erupted in the winner's circle. Well wishes and media personalities swamped the trainer Darren Smith and all the owners. Realisation hadn't sunk in as much as it was the shock of the domination of the result. Then the ecstatic owners ran down the raceway to greet Atomic Force and Tim Clark and walk the triumphant pair back to scale.

Tim turned to Dean and said I can't believe how easy that was, he was jogging behind them and burst away.

The scenes of joy and exhilaration were amazing.

Darren Smith was equally in a surreal state. He announced to the media that was his First Group 1 Winner. Darren is an outstanding horseman. He has ridden 3 day eventing for Australia as a younger man and is an outstanding horseman who still rides trackwork. Darren is currently in the TOP 10 Trainers in NSW with 42 wins for the season. This was his 35th Winner for Dynamic over the past few years.
