Country Grammar Rolls to Dubai World Cup Win

Second in the G1 Saudi Cup last out, US Grade 1 winner Country Grammar (USA) (Tonalist {USA}) showed that racing abroad is no issue after scoring a 1.75l win over Hot Rod Charlie (USA) (Oxbow {USA}) in the G1 Dubai World Cup.

Shadowing race favourite Life Is Good (USA) (Into Mischief {USA}) for much of the race, he took advantage when that one ran out of stamina in the final 350 metres. Flying up the centre of the track, Country Grammar took over in the final 100 metres and pulled away from there with Hot Rod Charlie and Chuwa Wizard (Jpn) (King Kamehameha {Jpn}) both passing the long-time leader right before the line.

“I am just very thankful to the entire team and Frankie (Dettori), who gave him a perfect ride. He is one of the best, if not the best,” said owner Amr Zedan.

Bred 3 x 4 to Pleasant Colony (USA), Country Grammar is one of two stakes-performers out of the Forestry (USA) mare Arabian Song (USA). That mare is a granddaughter of Willstar (USA) (Nureyev {USA}), whose granddaughter Phenetic (GB) (Zamindar {USA}) is a broodmare in New Zealand.

Phenetic’s oldest is a two-time winning I Am Invincible filly named La Tardigrada with the mare also having an unraced 3-year-old by Maurice (Jpn), an Almanzor (Fr) filly who sold for $220,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in 2022, and a Too Darn Hot (GB) weanling filly. • Conformationally front legs are excellent with nice short cannon (which is technically very good – means longer forearm covers more ground per stride)
• Powerful hindquarter with excellent length of to its croup and excellent hip:hock ratio (propulsion levers for driving forward)
• Well developed Gaskins (like Human biceps = strength) which are strong and deep into hocks
• Correct angulation to pasterns and shoulders (correct 60 degree angles)
• Hoofs are well structured and all 4 are symmetrical with good heels.

She’s going to develop, and she’s probably going to have late 2yo ability, so I think she’s got all the key indicators we look for in a horse.  Coming off Cambridge Stud in NZ, she's had access to the best paddocks over there and has been given the best start to life.

"At the Magic Millions we bought a lovely TOO DARN HOT filly. We targeted TOO DARN HOT as our First Crop Sire to back based upon his own brilliance on the track and the fact he is a top class son of the all conquering DUBAWI.

We put our money where our mouth is. We purchased two of his yearlings. We wanted to buy the Best Colt and the Best Filly and we achieved our objective. With an A+++ Cross and both SW on the Cross being Group 1 Winners we have been rewarded for our homework.

To get her for $100,000 was a genuine steal, she was as good as the colt we purchased. We paid $195,000 for him and thought he was a bargain so we believed we would be a $160,000 plus for this filly.

This filly is not going to be a speedy squib. Expect her to be a 3yo miler or further type.

"She's a Strong and Correct type, she looks like a potential late 2yo type but will be a better 3yo and want a mile. Being a quality looking filly we have got every opportunity to be aiming her at the Big races. She ticks all the boxes."

When researching which lots to inspect in the weeks prior to the sale, we look for certain genetic factors that increase the chance of the yearling being a superior athlete.

Our veterinarian Dr Tim Roberts inspected the yearling prior to purchase and believed this youngster to be a quality individual and a chance of being a successful equine athlete with no visual clinical issues likely to prevent it from reaching its racing potential.

Before purchase, the 42 X-Rays deposited in the sale ground X-Ray Repository facility were examined. There were no abnormal findings noted.

The horse was approved by Dr. Roberts for Dynamic Syndications to purchase in the salering.

After purchase, an endoscopic test on the horse's airway was performed and the result was the horse had normal function.

Also a blood test was performed and revealed no abnormal findings.

TIM rated the FILLY a score of 7+ which under his score charts is the  Second HIGHEST RATING he gives a yearling.
