Fresh off a last start win at Newcastle, Dynamic Syndications and Brad Widdup presented their 4yo gelding ABERRATION to a Class 2 event at Gosford on Tuesday 30-1-18 and saluted again for our Owners.
Ridden perfectly by Brenton Avdulla, ABERRATION was given an easy time under his hands and heels in what was not much more than a working gallop to claim the $16,630 first prize for his delighted ownership team.
ABERRATION is a 4yo Brown Gelding by LONHRO from HALLUCINATES.
His raceform now reads: 12 starts: 3 – 6 – 1 and $79,125.
Since purchasing ABERRATION, he has had 6 starts: 2 wins – 2 seconds – 1 third – 1 fourth and earned $49,230. Having been syndicated for $45,000, the owners now have a financially “free horse” to continue to enjoy !
ABERRATION won Race 1 - DE BORTOLI WINES CG&E CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)
However it was not what could be considered as a “normal” race with just a field of 3 to face the starter.
Originally a small field of 6 acceptors where
Dynamic Syndications had half the field with top weight ABBERATION engaged along with ROCKIN’ RUGA and RESORT.
Dynamic Syndications had some decisions to make. Would we run the 3 runners against the other runners or would we sidestep our runners.
Both Rockin’ Ruga and Resort were also dual acceptors with Rockin’ Ruga in at Warwick Farm last Friday and Resort also an acceptor in a Class 1 1600m at Orange also on Tuesday 30-1-18.
Ultimately the decision regarding Rockin’ Ruga was to race in town where he finished 4th whilst weighing up options with RESORT, we felt he was in a winnable race at Orange which would leave
ABERRATION to contest the Gosford event.
As it unfolded, we pulled the right rein for both horses.
ABBERATION went to the barriers as a $1.40 favourite which to our loyal owners was a luxury price.
However as can often be the case in small fields, the races are not run truly as tactics become vital.
We had to spot the main danger Lightning Lockie, 4.0kgs and race fitness at the trip. Whilst we had assumed our horse could run 1600m he was basically in uncharted waters at the journey.
The tactics we asked Brenton Avdulla to follow were carried out perfectly and despite the awkward race pattern, ABERRATION won coasting to the post by 0.41 lengths x 13.5 lengths.
We had been concerned pre-race that the other runner would try and lead and then stack up the small field and get away with soft sectionals attempting to turn it into a sit and sprint affair.
We asked Brenton to be alert to that possibility and just ride it as if he is too good for his opponents.
We always wanted to sit off the leader and then just wind it up from the 600m noting not to give the leader too big a head start with the 4.0kg weight pull.
“Just sit off the leader and follow it on its outside to ensure it knew we were there", as we felt it would weaken over the last 150m.
In essence the race panned out as expected with a good tactical ride by Penza making ABERRATION do a little work as it was a muddling race relating to tempo.
We did have one section to have a small heart flutter when Brenton asked our boy to go and he got onto the wrong leg and laid out as they swung for home but ever the professional Avdulla just got ABERRATION to come back under him and balance again, before hitting the go button at the top of the straight.
Giving the leader a 2 length start, ABERRATION took just 50metres to reel in the leader who was under pressure. Brenton pushed ABERRATION a half length in front and then with 150m to run, just had an armchair ride to the post maintaining the margin and being very kind to the horse.
Upon returning Brenton told reporters that he was never concerned and knew he
“was on the winner a long way from home.” As for the horse laying out, Brenton said
“that’s just a habit the horse has but was never a concern and he (ABERRATION) will be able to go on and win more races on this effort.”
Brad Widdup and his team had the horse looking sensational in the parade which is a credit considering he had run just 10 days earlier.
Team Dynamic and Brad Widdup are having great success together and this was just another example of us working together to place horses in winnable races for our owners to enjoy the racing experience.
ABERRATION was purchased as a tried horse from Godolphin for Brad Widdup to train as part of a tactic to give Brad some quality older horses in the stable whilst he waits for his team of young horses to come through the system.
It also gave Dynamic Syndications owners an opportunity to instantly race horses whilst they were waiting for their yearling purchases to mature and develop.
It’s been a win / win / win situation for all involved.
Congratulations to our DYNAMIC OWNERS of ABERRATION on your easy win and and banking your second provincial winning prizemoney in 10 days.
ABERRATION recorded Dynamic Syndications 517th Race Win since 2005.
In addition it was our 30th Race Win for the current racing season.
