On Friday a story by Ray Thomas (Racenet) emphasized the perils that jockey’s face everytime they throw a leg over a horse. It is sobering for those that watch our sport from the comfort of a grandstand, or a lounge chair, or are tucked up warm and cozy in the early hours of the morning when perils are at play. These hero's of our sport keep us engaged in the excitement of our industry. However some sadly pay the ultimate price whilst others count themselves luck to have survived. SEBRING five year-old mare TASHI (Sebring x Ghenwaa) produced her career best performance at Eagle Farm on Saturday to win the $700,000 Group 1 Tatts Tiara (1400m). TASHI is one of two winners and a placegetter from three to race from Ghenwaa. The other is Dynamic Syndications mare RAPT, a quality mare who has a career of 5 wins : 4 seconds : 2 thirds : 3 fourths and $315,425 inc 4th in the BTC Just Now S., LR. Ghenwaa is a winning half-sister to 2 stakes-winners Taraayef and Haybah and stakes placed Muraahib from the family of dual Derby winner and sire Rebel Raider.

Axius our Dynamic 3yo gelding trained by Ciaron Maher and ridden by boom apprentice Braith Knock, lined up at Randwick on the Kensington track on Wednesday. As he arrived at the barriers for only his fourth race start of his career, he was also first-up after 10 months away. Axius displayed his class with a Dominant Win. Axius was $4.40 second favourite with his stablemate Epic Proportion who was the favourite at $4.00. The Ciaron Maher stables were adamant Axius was the best of their three runners in the race.
