Widden Stud’s Sire Trapeze Artist is “Flying” and his exceptional run of stakes success over the summer continued at Randwick on Saturday when his quality four-year-old daughter PINITO won the Gr3 ATC Aspiration Quality (1600m).

A 2023 Inglis Easter purchase for $260,000 from Widden Stud, Pinito closed out her three-year-old season as runner-up in the Gr1 Queensland Oaks after winning the Gold Coast Bracelet (Listed) when she finished ahead of Dynamic Syndications filly Amplify (Microphone) who was the runner-up.
Pinito arrived here second-up from a spell and enjoyed stepping out to 1600m and proved too strong when forging ahead to win by half a length under James McDonald.

“Her first-up run was very good and now today’s win was also good,” said trainer Chris Waller, who till target further Black Type races for Pinito over the carnival.
“She showed good form in a Queensland Oaks as a three-year-old so if we can gradually get her up in distance that will be a good plus.
“The Epona (Gr3) would be perfect. Her first-up run was excellent. We even thought about running her in a Coolmore (Gr1), but she had a long time off and she was second-up, so we decided to take the easy steps.”
Pinito is consistent and from 13 starts has three wins and nine placings netting over $485,000 in prizemoney.
Pinito is the eighth stakes-winner in Australia this season for Trapeze Artist with a further 6 stakes placegetters on the sire’s resume.
Against his peers on the Fourth Season Sires List, he sits on 62 Winners for the season which is 10 wins ahead of the chasing pack headed by The Autumn Sun and Harry Angel.
Dynamic Syndications PIGGYBACK had the flashing lights on her for a tilt at the 2400m Gr1 Tancred and 3200m Gr1 Sydney Cup later this preparation when she stormed home from an impossible position to finish fourth in the 2000m Randwick City Cup LR just 1.54 lengths away.
Officially fourth, she was the exact same margin (1.54 lengths) from the winner as was third placed Juja Kibo.
The race was a perfect foundation stone for further distance tests in the coming weeks. PIGGYBACK added the extra black type to her resume and it’s now the third Black Type entry onto her pedigree page in her past 5 runs, having added Gr3 wins in the Colin Stephen Quality 2400m and the Gr3 Parramatta Cup 1900m.

She is on a programme that is heading towards a start in the Gr1 Sydney Cup. Her immediate programme is the WFA Gr1 Tancred Stakes 2400m on 28/3 before heading into the 3200m Gr1 Sydney Cup on 11/4.
PIGGYBACK is the second-best of the progeny of her sire and the Best Filly by TRAPEZE ARTIST to date, being a dual Gr3 winner with only GRIFF ranked above her after its Gr1 win of the Caulfield Guineas appearing on his resume. GRIFF is retired and has begun a career at stud.

We knew what we had in the locked and loaded, waiting to fire with PIGGYBACK and we also had a good idea of what other progeny were out and about and likely to make an impact in the Autumn and we are now starting to see that wave of winners.

She is the Dam of two foals to race since the catalogue was printed for 1 winner: CAPTIVATING TYCOON a 3yo Colt by Capitalist was an $85,000 yearling. 4 starts: 1-1-1-1 and is now spelling.
Her first foal SPLICED a 4yo mare (by Exceed And Excel) was a $525,000 yearling who has started twice including a fifth placing on debut and is spelling. Whilst the current 2yo named Street Monarch (Street Boss) was passed in for $110,000 as a yearling. She is unraced to date and our filly is her fourth foal.
