To win your maiden is always a relief for every owner. To win by
6.8 lengths and
set records in the process is always a thrill. Add in the fact that the win is in a
feature event adds icing to the cake.
That’s what our Dynamic Owners achieved with their 4yo mare AY OH WHEY OH won on Saturday.
She certainly didn't "Walk Like An Egyptian" - She zoomed !
AY OH WHEY OH returns to scale having broken her maiden by 6.8 lengths
Trained by the
“Baroness Of Bombala” Barbara Joseph the great lady rocked in to
'Movie Town' at Cooma on Saturday 3 December 2016 with 3 horses and won two races and ran 2nd in the Cooma Cup.
Amongst these horses was our
Dynamic Syndications 4yo mare AY OH WHEY OH who won the feature SUNDOWNERS CUP.

The main race is the
“Sundowners Cup” – which is named in honour of the movie
“The Sundowners” that was filmed in and around Cooma and Adaminaby Districts in 1959.
For celebrated country trainer
Barbara Joseph and her co-trainer son Paul Jones, the Sundowner’s Cup which is held at the once a year Cooma Monaro Race Club meeting, is always conducted on the first Saturday of December. This raceday is close to Barbara’s heart.

“I rode my very first winner at these Cooma picnics as a young girl, just out of school. I’m 71 now, I’ve kept a lovely picture of the presentation and I was there again with bells on,” chuckled the 'Baroness of Bombala'.
“They filmed a scene at the Cooma Racetrack back in 1959 for that wonderful old movie, the Sundowners with Robert Mitchum and Deborah Kerr, the superstars of the era. Locals I know from up here, played the race crowd.
"It was nominated for the Academy Awards. Because of that marvellous history, all the local trainers want to win the Sundowners Cup. I’ve won it before and the Cooma Cup and the Plate a good few times.
In pre-race press reports Barbara said:
"This year I’ve got a horse called Ay Oh Whey Oh in The Sundowners Cup. It was real unlucky at Moruya and will be hard to beat with Rachel Hunt to ride. She’s a real talent that little girl. But you never know if on the day something real smart has been set especially for the Sundowners.”
AY OH WHEY OH never gave her peers an opportunity to challenge her in this race.
The pre-race plan was to be positive from the jump and either lead or sit a close second if something else wanted to go forward.
As they jumped, Ay Oh Whey Oh went straight to the front and made every post a winner, to lead all the way and post a 6.8 length x 0.2 length win. For the 1400m event she posted 1:22.6 which was the second fastest time recorded on a Firm / Fast track (previous was 1:22.14 set in 2000).
The winning margin of 6.8 lengths was the biggest winning margin recorded at the Cooma racetrack (previous 4.3 lengths).
Her last 600m of 35.19 was the fastest last 600m over the 1400m (previous was 35.72 carrying only 51.5kgs set in 2006).
Her weight of 54.5kgs was the most weight carried to win on a Firm / Fast track (previous was 54.0kg in 2000).
The Joseph and Paul Jones stable also had Our Cracker win the Cooma Town Plate with in-form apprentice Rachel in the saddle and their horse Girl’s Own ran a gallant second in the Cooma Cup.
According to long-time Cooma Monaro Race Club president Mick Schofield, once again a big crowd from far and wide was on hand: “
It’s the biggest social event of the year in the highlands, regulars come from as far as Darwin, Queensland and Western Australia and there’s bus loads from all over the south east region,” Schofield said.

“There’s so many ex-pats coming home to be with their families before Christmas.”
