CONSTANZIA (4yo m Pierro x Mafia Miss) a $3.60 favourite,
recorded a dominant win on Saturday, scoring by
3.59 lengths when resuming from a spell in Race 4 over 1300m at the
Tuncurry-Forster Jockey Club meeting. She won
the Tuncurry Bowling Club Benchmark 58 event.
CONSTANZIA winning at Tuncurry Sat 16/5/20
Our
Jason Deamer trained mare was presented looking in sensational order for her first-up run this preparation. Ridden by jet pilot
Andrew Gibbons,
CONSTANZIA was given a perfect ride by the inform hoop.
To be fair, owners and followers should watch the replay to see a master craftsman at work. It was an 11 out of 10 ride from Gibbo. He guided our mare with 58.5kgs on her back, resuming from a spell, jumping from an outside gate in barrier 11 of 12 starters, and after just 300m he had found the fence, mid-field, just four lengths from the leaders.
Gibbo bided his time in transit and passing the 500m as the field started to pack up, Gibbo just angled
CONSTANZIA one off the fence as the field rumbled into the straight, saving plenty of ground.
CONSTANZIA at the 300m had a wall of horses in front of her and to her outside, and she looked to be in a zip-tight pocket. Then at the 250m, the gap opened to her outside and Gibbo angled out to be 4 deep into the clear, two lengths off the leaders and at that point, it was all over bar the shouting.
In 10 strides from the 220m mark,
CONSTANZIA and Gibbo had easily reeled in the leaders, then gave them a cold as the Dynamic Duo whizzed by.
At the 150m,
CONSTANIZIA was 2 lengths in front and Gibbo gave her only one reminder and she accelerated quickly over the final 100m, under hands and heels to record an eased down but widening 3.59 length victory, in a slick 1:20.25 on the Soft 6 surface.
To put that win into perspective, the other 1300m event on the day ran 1:22.10 almost a full 2 seconds (
14 lengths) slower.
CONSTANZIA returning to scale
Credit where it is due, it was a top ride by Gibbo however we take nothing away from the marvellous job our trainer Jason Deamer has done with
CONSTANZIA.
When we drew so wide and being first up over 1300m and carrying such a weight, when the barriers came out, our initial thoughts were to scratch, because statistics reveal it’s so difficult to win from such a wide draw.
However,
Jason convinced us to run as her work on the Tuesday morning leading into the race was so electric, he felt the horse would still win even if she sat widest throughout.
We accepted Jason’s confidence and we chose to race.
So, its as much about Jason as it is about Gibbo and as much as these boys were both at the top of their game, the win was all about
CONSTANZIA who appears to have come back so much bigger, stronger and more mature.
CONSTANZIA has taken her career record to 8 starts: 3 Wins, 0 seconds, 2 thirds.
Our mare had raced twice, running 5th both occasions before we changed her environment away from the hustle of a city stable to the relaxed environment of Newcastle under Jason Deamer.
It has proved a master stroke. Jason has raced her
6 starts: 3 Wins, 2 thirds. The only time she put in a below expectation effort was in town when she finished 10th beaten 4.8 lengths over 1500m and that day the ride was very ordinary, and our mare was trapped deep throughout and had to do far too much work.
CONSTANZIA leading back her peers after winning
CONSTANZIA has grown and developed under Jason’s care and appears capable of several more wins to come, in far better grade than where she has been racing.
