If you didn’t see it you won’t believe it ! You could be excused for thinking it was a misprint in the race results.
However for those lucky enough to watch it, they were in awe of the performance of Dynamic Syndications horse CURFEW (3yo g Testa Rossa / Time For Bed) who sprinted away to score a dominating 6.5 length win in sizzling time at Wyong on Thursday afternoon.
Follow The Leader ! CURFEW Dashes Away
CURFEW won Race 1 the WESTPAC RESCUE HELICOPTER SERVICE 3yo Maiden Handicap 1000m carrying 58.0 kgs.
CURFEW had Barrier 9 of 9 after scratchings and was ridden superbly by Champion Jockey Nash Rawiller for Trainer Darren Smith and Team Dynamic.
It was a simple enough victory, CURFEW led from start to finish but it was his last 250m that was so dominant. Winning by 6.5 lengths on its own was impressive however when we looked at the clock, we were dumbfounded by the performance.
Eased down - CURFEW puts up a 6.5 length Margin
CURFEW stopped the clock in a slick 57.72 seconds coming home in an unbelievable 34.22 secs in a display that was amazing since he was only ridden hands and heels over the final furlong and was eased down the last 25 metres.
This time was exceptionally quick on a good surface since the Class Record was 56.91 secs set on a good track in November 2011. However CURFEW did this time on a Slow 6 rated track and into a strong head wind that had the flags tugging hard on their flagpoles. No wonder those chasing had no chance to catch him. Being able to run that time off the front made it impossible.
To give a comparison of times, race 5 on the programme was a competitively run Class 2 event over the same 1000m trip and they clocked 58.95 secs coming home in 35.40.
CURFEW ran 1.23 secs quicker overall and came home 1.18 secs quicker eased down having led the entire trip. That’s approximately 8.5 lengths faster !
A delighted NASH RAWILLER
Nash was full of praise for the horse when returning to the winner’s circle.
“Gee he did that easy – he’s a real nice horse” he said.
“I had to work the first 150m to cross over then he relaxed and travelled”
I shock him up around the turn and he went from cruising to flat out in 3 strides and he handled the track so good”.
NASH RAWILLER tells owners Bruce Gardiner, Pablo Bonilla and Dean Watt how easy it was
CURFEW is the younger half brother to another high quality Dynamic galloper MIDNIGHT AT ASCOT – winner of 7 races and Stakes Placed.
Dynamic Syndications purchased CURFEW at the Magic Millions Sales in 2011. Earlier on that day MIDNIGHT AT ASCOT had won the Magic Millions Country Cup and just 2 hours later CURFEW went through the auction ring.
CURFEW is built in the same mould as his half brother being a big, strong and very solid style of sprinter.
This was his second race start. Before his debut he had one trial which he won and then he ran second at his first race start on a heavy 9 track but pulled up very shinsore and was immediately spelled. He had two trials leading into this first up run winning both. Darren has always had a high opinion of his ability and he displayed that belief to his owners today.
CURFEW Race Career: 2 starts = 1 win, 1 second and $20,150 (including a $5,000 BOBS Bonus).
This was a terrific way for Dynamic Syndications to bring up our
53rd Race Win for the 2012-13 Racing Season and our
341st win overall. Importantly, it was the
82nd Race Win that Dynamic Trainer
DARREN SMITH has trained for Team Dynamic.
Winner's Circle - Thanks CURFEW !
