Trainer Chris Munce racked up his fourth two-year-old stakes win of the season with Saint Patricks Day winning the Dalrello Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm.
SAINT PATRICKS DAY winning the Dalrello Stakes
Chris Munce also saddled up
Ours To Keep ($4.40) who also ran a solid race at his first start back from a spell to finish fourth (3.2 lengths) on Saturday.
But
Saint Patricks Day ($26) finished strongly to beat Capital Gain ($8) by a long neck with another 1-1/2 lengths to Snitzkraft ($2 fav).
The two-year-old colt jumped as
$26 outsider but was able to find the split in the field in the latter stages of the race to cause a huge upset to all bar the Chris Munce Stable Supporters.
This result for Chris Munce means this season he has now
won 4 juvenile features: B J McLachlan Stakes and Phelan Ready Stakes with Ours To Keep and Champ Elect won the Calaway Gal Stakes.
Chris has a huge opinion of Saint Patricks Day who cost $55,000 at last year's Magic Millions Sales.
"He was too immature to set for the Magic Millions Classic but he has really come on strongly. He won very well at Caloundra first up and I gave him a great chance today," Munce said.
"I couldn't believe it when they bet $61 early on. I even tipped him as a top chance in a radio interview on Friday so it was no shock."
Dynamic Syndications accepted the information early including it in our
“Stable Mail” for our Owners on Friday.
Based upon the way the odds shortened, many of our owners were very happy.
"I think he is well and truly up to the 1600 metres of a Group One race like the Atkins," Munce said.
Saint Patricks Day made it 2 wins from 2 starts this preparation. The colt has advanced quickly off a win in a Sunshine Coast 2YO Maiden (1000m) on 9 April when having his second race start, to score impressively at Listed Class here.
He settled back in fifth / sixth place, behind a good pace, improved between runners nearing the home turn and went through to second at the 200m. He took the lead at the 100m and then went on to score well.
Chris Munce’s dream of claiming his first win at Group 1 level as a trainer have soared following Saint Patricks Day’s victory in the Dalrello Stakes.
Chris Munce has been training for just over two years after an illustrious career in the saddle and has big winter carnival plans in store for both Ours To Keep and Saint Patricks Day.
In this short period, Chris has already trained 81 Winners.
Chris will give St Patricks Day his next start in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) at Doomben on May 13 which will decide if he heads towards the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes and Group 1 J J Atkins at Eagle Farm.
“He’ll run in the Champagne Classic next and I think he’s well and truly up to running 1600 metres in the J J Atkins,” Munce said.
Jockey Ronnie Stewart pushed Saint Patricks Day along in the middle stages before he exploded late to beat second-placed Capital Gain by a half a length, with a further length and a half away to favourite Snitzkraft.
"He will win (the JJ Atkins) as well, he is a very good horse. He is improving all the time and he has just kept stepping up," Munce said.
"His work here on Tuesday morning was good. I couldn't believe when they put the $61 up.
"He was a Magic Millions horse but he didn't run in that because he was too immature and had some growing pains as well."
Adam Watt & Chris Munce with another Dynamic Winner
Chris Munce and Dynamic Syndications race many horses together and at this year’s Magic Millions we purchased a magnificent colt
by Excelebration from the
Gr2 Winning mare LAURINEL ARGIE.
We both rated the colt highly and it was a given that we would buy the colt to give to Chris and make it the first syndication we have done in the state of Queensland.
The biggest reason behind us starting Queensland Syndications is that the prizemoney in Queensland is now so good for Metropolitan class horses and the training costs are far more economical in Brisbane compared to Sydney and Melbourne.
Also our colt is eligible for
both QTIS and BOBS as well as the Magic Millions race series. Then we add in the
Golden Slipper, Golden Rose, Blue Diamond and Blue Sapphire.
This is exceptionally rare for any horse to be eligible to all these, allowing the colt’s owners to massive prizemoney levels.
Our owners deserve to have access to those opportunities.
Just a few shares now remain in our
Excelebration x Laurinel Argie Colt with Chris Munce and we all know the stallion is doing a good job with his first crop of horses.
As a sire Excelebration’s oldest Southern Hemisphere horses are just current season 2yo’s and from just a handful of runners, apart from the very impressive Stakes Winner
SAINT PATRICKS DAY and South African 2yo Winner
Phelan Luck, Excelebration has 3 placegetters
EXCELEBRAZIONE (2nd Doomben),
EXCELAMORE (2nd Newcastle) &
HIGH DIVE, (2nd Hawkesbury) whilst
Can Party, Cedar Falls and Smooth Celebration have each run 4th.
Add in the fact that
we purchased the “Best Colt” on pedigree and “most expensive colt” by the sire from the yearling sales in 2017, we have given Chris the best opportunity to train and race the best bred Excelebration colt from his second crop of yearlings.
