Touchdown!
On Tuesday evening 28 July, our
NZ Bloodstock Yearling Sale purchased filly by Champion sire SAVABEEL from the quality racemare BINGO (by O’Reilly) finally arrived in Sydney after being caught in NZ due to travel restriction placed on horses because of the COVID-19 crisis.
Due to have arrived in Sydney in late March, the filly was set to fly to Australia when the NZ government closed the boarders.
Then in May, NZ had a bio-security scare when a horse imported from Europe tested positive to Theileria equi (piroplasmosis), a blood disease that causes anaemia and is spread from animal to animal by ticks. The ticks that are known to transmit the disease are a species not present in New Zealand. It is not infectious between horses. However, the Australian Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) halted Racehorse exports to Australia until each horse being exported had a new blood test confirming it was clear.
Then limited fights were introduced between Auckland and Sydney but they were being prioritised to in-foal broodmares that needed to travel to Australia before it became too late in their pregnancies.
During this time of enforced detention in NZ,
we didn’t just let the filly stand around in a paddock.
She was
broken-in and then given a
let-up and then returned to
pre-training to be ready to go when she arrived in Australia.
Finally, we got the all clear to fly her home and our
delightful daughter of super sire Savabeel was booked onto the plane to cross the ditch on the 28th July.
As soon as she arrived at Mascot, our filly was whisked away to
Shane Rose’s Bimbadeen Park.
On Wednesday morning she was put her through her paces to gain an understanding of the level of fitness and education our filly was at and Shane’s reports were glowing.
Our beautiful looking filly with a booming black-type pedigree this SAVABEEL x BINGO is bred on the best genetic cross for Savabeel – that is daughters of O’Reilly.
This cross has the highest number of Stakes Winners with 13 of the sire’s 99 Stakes Winners coming from O’Reilly mares.
Having the
bloodlines to match the individual, we placed the filly in the care of one of Australia’s
“hottest strike rate” training operations –
FREEDMAN TRAINING which is RICHARD FREEDMAN at Rosehill and MICHAEL FREEDMAN at Randwick.
So,
our filly has arrived safe and sound, is fully educated and in early training.
She is by SAVABEEL the Champion Sire in NZ for the past 6 years. She is out of a quality racemare, who is by the broodmare sire that mates best with the Champion Sire.
She has size, scope and excellent conformation and has benefited by staying in NZ for six months after the sale, where we were able to agist and continue raising her on the magnificent pastures of Waikato Stud where her sire Savabeel stands, in the heart of the best thoroughbred district in NZ.
Fate works in mysterious ways. Our filly has had the
advantage of this
extra six months growth in NZ and now
RICHARD FREEDMAN will take over the job of training and polishing her into hopefully a champion of tomorrow.
You won’t buy a better type or better genetic pedigree in 2020.
She will be aimed at the quality 2yo races in the Autumn and then at the Blue Ribband races during her 3yo career.
