Whilst many are in lockdown due to COVID-19 protocols, the Thoroughbred Industry keeps progressing.

At this time of year, it’s the
vital education phase of the
yearlings we have purchased at the various sales in 2020.
Dynamic Syndications many Owners and Followers may not be aware of the various stages involved in getting these babies up and going toward their racetrack future.
There is one area that is
worth its weight in gold. It’s the
establishment and education phase (breaking-in) of these yearlings.
A poor experience here can be detrimental throughout a horse’s career and naturally a positive experience will install confidence and a willingness to progress for each individual horse.
Shane Rose
In the video clip below, Dynamic Syndications Adam Watt headed out to our
thoroughbred educator Shane Rose’s property Bimbadeen Park to see how these horses are maturing and how their early education programmes are progressing in
Stage 2 of being under saddle.
Shane Rose is a
household name in the
equestrian world and he’s a
vital asset to have on our side.
Shane is an Australian Equestrian Team Olympian and has won a Silver Medal in Beijing in 2008 and a Bronze Medal in Rio in 2016.

Shane as the educator of all our yearlings offers us the
expert care and attention and a brilliant platform for each horse to grow confidence as they progress through their careers. It’s the
perfect start to life for every Dynamic Syndications yearling.
Our horses from the saleyards are sent straight to
Bimbadeen Park to unwind for 7 – 10 days prior to commencing their education.
This
first phase is where they are taught to respond to pressure being applied through the reins and a bit in the mouth so to turn left and right and to steer as per the rider’s commands.
This takes as long as necessary until each horse has reached their potential but is
normally 4-5 weeks.
Then each yearling is given time off to
roam a paddock and relax having been exposed to a
8-10 week sales preparation and then a
4-5 week education with the only break being 7 days at
Bimbadeen Park between leaving the saleyard.
At the conclusion of this stage, they have been taught to behave perfectly for their riders and have been introduced to the barriers which can be quite daunting for many yearlings.

On their graduation day,
their training and ability is captured on video by Bimbadeen Park as both a
service to the yearling owner but also as
proof that the horse has been
well educated responds as has been reported and
can handle the claustrophobic environment of barriers and can
jump and run from them.
Next, each horse is given
3-4 weeks rest.
Then they are
re-introduced to the Shane Rose refresher course.
Here they are reminded of everything they have learnt previously when they were being broken-in.
This
Second Phase takes about 4-5 weeks where the yearling starts doing light riding of trot and canter over 400m each morning.
After the end of the second week’s foundation, these yearlings progress to doing
pacework where they run along at
half-pace (18 seconds per 200m) and they travel over 800m. They do this
six times being each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday for two weeks.
Once that concludes, the yearlings are sent back to the
spelling paddock for 3-4 weeks.
Stage Three the yearlings
repeat their work from programme from
Stage Two and at the conclusion of that
4-5 weeks, these yearlings are sent into their
appointed trainers stables where they are introduced to
Stable Life and the hustle and bustle of trackwork.
This lasts normally
2-3 weeks by which time these babies have had enough and are looking for another spelling farm holiday.
When
Stage Four arrives, it is a repeat of
Stage Two and
Stage Three however this time, the yearlings stay in training with their appointed trainer in the hope they can progress through to the early 2yo trials.
A few will not be
mentally or physically strong enough to cope with this burden and will return to the paddock to mature whilst others will take it all in their stride.
Our 2020 yearling purchases are all in different stages of their education phases.
Magic Millions yearlings are more advanced in their work because they were the first to be purchased in mid-January.
We have then purchased yearlings at the
NZ Sale which arrived
mid-February and we purchased at the
Melbourne Sales early March.
So, it’s important to seed the workflows at
Bimbadeen Park against the
needs of our yearlings.
This process is happening across the industry as we all look to educate
tomorrow’s champions today.
The
first 2yo event for the new season is just 6 months away upon the
October long-weekend and whilst that seems a long way into the future,
the future belongs to those who plan for it.
This is where Dynamic Syndications experience shines through.
After all, we are the Only Team that have won the BIG 3 ~ The MAJOR 2YO Races: Golden Slipper, Blue Diamond and Magic Millions. We know first hand what it takes.
Please enjoy this quick clip that gives you an insight into the progress of our 2020 Magic Millions Yearling Purchases.
