Dynamic record our 140th Individual Winner as AL JULHARA scores
Congratulations to the top team of Dynamic Owners of the beautifully bred mare AL JULHARA who scored a determined win at Murwillumbah on Melbourne Cup Day.
Up until a week ago, our mare was trained by top trainer
Gerald Ryan at Rosehill.
She had resumed at Kembla Grange over 1400m after a spell and went well, especially since she was being trained to run 1600m but so typical of the terrific team player
Gerald Ryan is for us at Dynamic, he suggested that he would be happy to continue to train the mare but Gerald thought she would be very well placed racing up north and suggested we send her to his mate and the excellent young trainer
MATTHEW DUNN who is based at Murwillumbah.
Matthew has first class facilities and Gerald suggested that the mare would appreciate an environment where she could be out in a paddock of a day and also work on the track and Matthew has access to the beach.
Matthew had learnt his trade in Sydney where for an extended period, he was
Gerald Ryan's foreman.
Gerald was obviously a master tutor as Matthew has had outstanding success over recent years.
So after a quick vote amongst the owners, the unanimous decision was made to send her up to Matthew and she left last Tuesday evening - exactly a week ago.
She arrived in excellent order from Gerald and Matthew was able to change our mare's routine.
Team Dynamic knew we were setting our mare a tough task. She had been trained by Gerald to go 1600m and further and Matthew hadn't had much of an opportunity to get to know the mare. However, at Murwillumbah her new home track, on
Melbourne Cup Day we noted there was a 1200m maiden handicap. It was agreed to put a nomination in and look and see what the race looked like.
We liked what we saw on paper so elected to accept and we would be able to use the race to give Matthew a hands on look at the mare in competition, rather than just a barrier trial. At the same time Matthew booked leading local rider
Cyril Small to guide her around and report back on what he had under saddle.
So Matthew kept the mare fresh and saddled her up for this race.
Tactically we considered the race didn't have a lot of pace according to our speed map, so we worked out a tactic to be positive early and try to lead or sit at the girth of the leader.
We knew she would find it tough to sprint having been trained to get over ground, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible for our mare. Being forward would ensure she could tough it out over the concluding stages without having to make up a lot of ground.
As the race panned out, everything fell into place.
She jumped well from barrier 2 whilst the runner up who had drawn barrier 1, also pushed forward to hold the fence and the lead. Cyril pushed up and got
AL JULHARA to sit at the girth of the leader.
These two worked hard up-front, putting a break in the field back to third and further.
As they turned for home
AL JULHARA worked up to eyeball the leader and the two went together for a furlong before Cyril asked AL JULHARA for an effort. She rallied, finding a half length without a fightback from her peer.
In control, Cyril allowed
AL JULHARA to do minimal work in the run to the line whilst maintaining her advantage over the runner up.
Job done !
AL JULHARA at her 7th race start had broken through and won.
It was a very important race win. Specifically because she is such a beautifully bred mare, the fact she is now a winner has ensured demand for her as a broodmare when her race career comes to a close.
AL JULHARA is by FASTNET ROCK / JEWEL OF THE NILE.
She is a full sister to the winning and Gr1 performed PEARL OF THE SEA.
JEWEL OF THE NILE is a half sister to Gr 1 Winner SPECATORIAL & also stakes placed Kennett.
AL JULHARA'S grand-dam is the Stakes Winner REIGN OF HONOUR.
AL JULHARA'S 3rd Dam is also a Stakes Winner, SINGING WONDER.
Her race record is now 7 starts: 1 win, 1 second.
