Champion sire of two-year-olds, Exceed And Excel (Danehill – Patrona, by Lomond) enjoyed a remarkable day on Saturday for the 2013 edition of the Group 1 Golden Slipper when dramatically the sire produced the quinella in Saturday’s renewal of Australia’s two-year-old showpiece.
EXCEED AND EXCEL produced 4 runners to the race which was 25% of the field. His progeny ran First, Third and Fourth and won $2,839,500 prizemoney which was 81% of the available pool. However Overreach led the quartet of the sire’s youngsters in the 2013 renewal of the $3.5 million contest to outstanding results.
The stallion had previously sired a Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner when Overreach’s close relation Reward For Effort won the Victorian two-year-old event in 2009. He also produced Helmet (Exceed And Excel – Accessories, by Singspiel) claimed the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce and Champagne Stakes double in 2011.
For Overreach, a brilliant beginning allowed jockey Tommy Berry to position Overreach behind the leader from barrier one before the Corumbene Stud filly railed through to hit the front at the 300 metres.
Overreach’s smart acceleration, combined with the fact she saved ground while others were content to concede distance to her by racing wide, left her well clear with 200 metres to run.
Sweet Idea (Exceed And Excel – Fildais, by Timber Country) chased valiantly but was unable to get closer than 1-1/2 lengths to the brilliant winner. Another daughter of Exceed And Excel, the Peter Snowden-trained Guelph (Exceed And Excel – Camarilla, by Elusive Quality) was fourth.
Overreach is a daughter of the metropolitan winner Bahia (Snippets – Miss Prospect, by Rory’s Jester), who retired undefeated from four starts. Bahia is a half-sister to Reward For Effort (Exceed And Excel, by Miss Prospect) and the Group 1-placed (Royal Academy – Miss Prospect, by Rory’s Jester).
Therefore Overreach is the ¾ sister to Reward For Effort.
Overreach is the only foal out of Bahia to race. The mare produced a colt by Flying Spur (Danehill – Rolls, by Mr Prospector) in 2011 as well as a brother to the Golden Slipper winner last year. She has a full brother to Overreach weanling.
This was a wonderful result for Dynamic Syndications. Having already syndicated Reward For Effort and now seeing him become one of the hottest sire prospects in Australia, we also have two fillies under management very closely related to Overreach. This was a marvelous result as the assets values have skyrocketed.
REWARD FOR EFFORT stands at Chatswood Stud in Victoria for $11,000. He was leading Victorian Sire for mares in both 2011 (150) and 2012 (173).
REWARD FOR EFFORT
At $11,000 he is the most desirable stallion in Australia.
