Boom! The dogs were barking it and the street corner tip had spread far and wide, that
Dynamic Syndications had an unraced 2yo filly that was way above average with her displayed ability at trackwork.
TRENDY LASS as a yearling
However, you never truly know until they arrive at the sport and deliver on their promised potential or prove they are just another spruik horse and fall by the wayside.
Normally
Team Dynamic and our trainers like to give horses two barrier trials to ensure fitness and racecraft before heading to the track.
However, before we headed to the trials on the 6th January for her first educational effort, the
boom from stable staff and track riders had us upbeat that she may have the necessary ability that we believe could place her in elite company.
TRENDY LASS with SHANE ROSE in pre-training
She trialled well, doing it with ease under hands and heels, showing natural pace and ran fast time posting a 3-length win.
Since then the whispers were becoming louder that she kept improving. We considered a second trial, however the stable was convinced that she didn’t need it because she was a natural.
Last Saturday, she was sent along for a hit out and ran away from her work partner which has already displayed good ability.
We were confident that she could be a genuine chance in the
WIDDEN STAKES on debut, but that dream was shattered when she
drew barrier 11 of 11. You just can’t start 2yo’s from outside draws on debut, especially in stakes-class as the assignment is far too difficult for inexperienced horses.
We had thrown a nomination into a Open Handicap 2yo race at Scone on Friday as a back-up plan in case we needed it and as things worked out that was the right decision.
At Scone, the trip was over 900m and despite knowing that she will be far better at 1200m than 900m, the race gave us the opportunity to have a hit out here for prizemoney, rather than going back for a second barrier trial.
She drew barrier 2 in this race, and we believed that she could lead and follow the fence, giving our inexperienced filly a guide to follow.
GAI and ADRIAN produced our filly in tremendous condition for her first up assignment, with the lure of bigger aspirations over the next 8 weeks, she still had room to tighten-up in fitness.
The race at Scone looked a challenging assignment on paper, as the top weight had good formlines, Godolphin had a first starter that trialled well, and there was a Hawkesbury trial winner that had won in good time.
In true GAI and ADRIAN “bone and muscle” style, stable rider
Winona Costin took no prisoners, jumping quickly and spearing to the fence to hold the lead.
The race was over after 100m. The top-weight came across to try and eyeball us but was under pressure doing that, as
TRENDY LASS peeled of a split from the 800m-600m of
10.51 which had her peers under pressure. Then from the 600 to the 400 Trendy Lass produced another exact
10.51. Then from the 400 to the 200 she repeated another slick split of
10.76 which broke the hearts of those chasing. Winona had the luxury of giving TRENDY LASS and
eased down run to the line but still peeled off the fastest last 200m in
11.64.
Trendy Lass had broken 33.0 secs for the last 600m when running
32.92 and stopped the clock in a
sizzling 51.16 for babies is tremendous.
TRENDY LASS posted a Win in the Emirates Park Open 2YO Handicap by an eased down by 2.5 lengths over EVER UPWARD with PERPIGNAN 3.94 lengths off us back in third spot.
TRENDY LASS had opened at
$2.40 but was
heavily supported and was backed-in on every call into
$1.30 before an adjusted back to
$1.40 as the gates opened.
Importantly, she was very strong through the line.
It left connections pondering about
what could have been had we drawn a decent marble instead of the visitors draw.
Little fish are sweet.
We have given TRENDY LASS a
confidence building foundation fitness win, in what was not much more than an
exhibition gallop.
Importantly, she is now a
2yo winner, which will sit nicely on her pedigree page.
It’s now up to TRENDY LASS to see how far she gets this preparation.
We have several nice pathways planned over the coming weeks, with
black-type races her goal.
There is no doubt that GAI and ADRIAN know what it takes at this time of year to present a 2yo fit well and ready and connections know that on raw talent alone TRENDY LASS is top shelf so we can sit back and allow Gai and Adrian to work their magic.
TRENDY LASS was a $170,000 purchase from the Magic Millions Sales last year from the Twin Hills Stud draft.
We are absolutely delighted for her Ownership Team as all her co-owners are long-term, loyal clients of Dynamic so we are all “living the dream.”
Congratulations on the debut win to: Dynamic Syndications Racing, Mr S R Freeman, Mrs K Tew, Mrs G J Storey, Ms L J Maher, Mr P J Maher, Mr S J Brereton, Mrs A Whiley, Mrs L A Butler.

TRENDY LASS produced Dynamic Syndications 264th Individual Winner from 312 Individual Runners 84.6% whilst 305 (97.8%) have earned prizemoney.
This was Dynamic Syndications 20th Race Win for the season.
