The
“Firm” were back in the
WINNER’S CIRCLE on Friday afternoon as our
terrific Trio - DYNAMIC – DEAMER – REITH put on another masterclass when claiming the
softest of
wins in Race 3, the
Great Northern Maiden Plate 1200m at Tamworth, with our recently acquired 3yo gelding
GUMNUTS – which we purchased from Godolphin at the Magic Millions Racehorse Sale on the 18th January 21.
GUMNUTS too classy for his peers
GUMNUTS was a $50,000 + GST purchase just
25 days earlier, having run 3rd at Wangaratta at his previous start on the 6th January. After that run, he was bundled onto a truck and floated from Flemington to the Gold Coast and then, after we purchased him, he was sent back down the highway to
Jason Deamer’s stables at Newcastle.
So, he’s one tough horse both mentally and physically.
GUMNUTS arrived at the sale in
magnificent order from the professional team at
Godolphin and Jason was able to train on with the horse without it needing a break.
Team Dynamic had identified GUMNUTS off his previous formlines where he had 5 starts in Victoria for
2 x third placings.
Replays and Ratings had this horse capable of much bigger prizes than a bush maiden.
Jason had reported to Adam at Team Dynamic that the horse was in
excellent order and had been working
strongly in the lead up to his first race for his new ownership team.
We chose to take the soft option with GUMNUTS and head to a
Set Weights Maiden Plate at Tamworth where the handicapper couldn’t get at him, when compared to a handicap having formlines of 2 placings from 5 runs.
This was a race to
build fitness and more importantly
confidence for the
horse (
and our owners) with a minimum of fuss.

Job Done!
Our
“go-too” man
Christian Reith gave
GUMNUTS a perfect ride –
“go to the front and improve on your position!”
Tactically it was just about having
GUMNUTS land in a comfortable position and get him to relax.
If we led that’s fine, but if we had a few wanting to go crazy upfront, then let them go and take a sit.
As soon as the gates crashed back and
GUMNUTS speared out to land a neck in front of his peers, it was
all over then and there
bar the shouting!
Christian allowed
GUMNUTS to roll forward and the
big striding handsome Adonis of equine splendour was able to bowl along setting a comfortable speed for him, but getting his peers off-the-bit behind him.
At every sectional split
GUMNUTS kept improving his leading margin.
Then as Christian and
GUMNUTS passed the 400m mark as the Dynamic Duo swung into the home straight,
GUMNUTS was slipped a little more rein and he exploded away with every stride, gapping the opposition.
Such was the commanding performance over his peers that as Christian passed the
100m mark and had a sustained look over his shoulder, he saw he was
6 lengths in front of his closest rival.
Christian had the
luxury to sit up and allowed
GUMNUTS ($2.05 fav) to stroll to the line to still record an imposing
4.47 lengths Win over runner-up Power Runner ($101) with a further 0.28 lengths away to Cartography ($2.45) back in third.
GUMNUTS paraded like a
Movie Star and was a
stand-out in the parade ring having been presented in
awesome condition by his gifted
Dynamic Trainer JASON DEAMER.
Christian brings GUMNUTS back to the Winner's Stall
GUMNUTS looked a class above his peers and raced the same way.
Whilst
visually very pleasing, the field on exposed form was questionable, so its too early to talk in raptures about his deeds.
He is a nice horse, he appears to have more wins in store, he has obvious ability however he was
(a) expertly placed into this event by Dynamic Syndications,
(b) was trained to perfection by a wonderful horseman and
(c) was given a gold star 11 out of 10 ride by a jockey who is riding at the peak of his skills.
Happy ! Christian Reith clocks up another Dynamic Winner
The acid test is still to come as we look to advance up the pecking order.
It’s up to
GUMNUTS how far he progresses, but what does give us great confidence he still has significant improvement to come in both fitness and racecraft.
We know he will be a much better horse in six months’ time but in the interim we will continue to chip away with modest goals to build his resume and bank balance before aiming at more competitive targets.
