A colt by freshman sire
Dundeel from a former star racemare topped a buoyant Day One of the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The colt from five-time Group One winner Miss Finland, offered as Lot 232 stole the show late in the day when purchased for $900,000.
It capped a huge day's selling with opening day records falling across the board.
The colt is the seventh foal of Miss Finland, a winner of 11 races and earner of over $4.6 million.
A former Golden Slipper and VRC Oaks winner, Miss Finland has already made her mark at stud through the exploits of her Thousand Guineas winning daughter Stay With Me.
The second top seller on the day was the filly by Tapit from Lienan who was purchased by Mandalong Stud and Gary Nickson Racing for $700,000.
Across the first day of the sale over $35.9 million changed hands on 187 lots sold at an average price of $192,016.
The clearance rate was a healthy 85 per cent.
There were 11 yearlings over half a million dollars and they were spread across a number of sires.
The market is wide and varied. The buying bench is strong across all levels and the average, gross and clearance rates all rose providing a very strong start.
Dynamic Syndications had our best start to a yearling sale in many years.
We struck the first blow in 2017 when the hammer fell on Lot 1 at $140,000 on a Peirro x Faith Hill Filly.
Next we brought lot 37 a Dundeel x Funzero Filly for $140,000.
Then we purchased lot 89 a Smart Missile x Highland Daughter colt for $105,000
Then we added lot 187 an Epaulette x Lucentino Filly for $50,000.
Our fifth and final buy was lot 192 a second Peirro filly this time from the mare Marfia Miss for $120,000.
This represented a total spend on 5 yearlings of $555,000 for an Average of $111,000.
Day Two of the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale will commence at 10am (Qld time) on Thursday.
