A sensational training effort by quality horseman
David Brideoake with the promising
HARDHAM has seen the trainer declare that a trip to Sydney to tackle the
Group 1 ATC Derby on March 4 is firmly on the agenda, as the
Redoute’s Choice colt became his sires’ 141st Stakes Winner on Friday Night at Moonee Valley when claiming the
$200,000 Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes 2040m.
In the colours of Peter and Sarah Moody, the David Brideoake-trained colt came from midfield under Luke Nolen to power pass the favoured pair of Ruthven (Domesday) and Farson (Snitzel) to win by three-quarters of a length.
Purchased by Moody Racing for $300,000 from the Broadwater Thoroughbreds draft at the 2014 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling sale, Hardham was originally trained by Peter Moody before a short spell with Mick Price.
He was having his third start for David Brideoake, who took over his training at the start of the year.
Winless in five starts this season, this was now his second win from 8 starts. His other win was on debut in March 2016.
The son of Redoute's Choice has some big name owners including
Sir Patrick Hogan.
Brideoake said
“He's a very capable horse who has been looking for a trip, great ride tonight and he finished it off really well.”
“The wet track didn't suit him in the Randwick Guineas but he still ran a very honest race. Back on top of the ground suited him beautifully tonight.”
“A couple of weeks in Sydney (before the ATC Derby) is where we'll go.”
Hardham is a brother to millionairess King's Rose winner of eight stakes races including the Group 1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas and Group 2 Memsie Stakes.
