The harder you work often means the luckier you get. It’s no fun walking 8 hours a day in the often oppressive heat and humidity being attacked by fly’s and still having to maintain concentration when looking at 150 horses per day as we sieve the wheat from the chaff to find horses that meet our strict buying criteria.
Worse is when you do these hard yards and find a horse, get it approved by the vet get its x-rays read and set a fair price on the horse’s value only to come up short as the horse leaves the ring to race in someone else’s colours.
As frustrating as that can be, there are also the opposite times when all the planets align and you have a professional vendor happy to meet the market with a fair reserve. That is our utopia.
Enter Lot 261, a magnificent colt by a multiple times champion Australian sire – a sire known as THE SIRE OF SIRES – REDOUTE’S CHOICE.
Now add in the fact that the Dam of the colt was Gr3 Placed
To quote a well-used phrase “wait ….. there’s more,” this colt’s 3rd DAM was a Champion 2yo and a Champion 3yo winning the Gr1 Sires Produce at 2 and the Australian Oaks Gr1 at 3.
Lot 260 just before our colt saw his Dam’s half-sister by Savabeel sell for $640,000.
The colt we had secured was lot 261 by
REDOUTE’S CHOICE x LOVETESSA (by O’Reilly) who had been magnificently presented to the sale by the all-powerful
Cambridge Stud owned by Sir Patrick Hogan.
Bred and raised at Cambridge Stud, He was from the Gr3 Eulogy S., placed
LOVETESSA – winner of 2 races at 1400m.
His Second Dam
LOVE DIAMONDS (by Danehill) was a 2yo winner whilst his 3rd Dam was Champion 2yo and 3yo
TRISTALOVE (by Sir Tristram).
TRISTALOVE produced 8 foals – all winners including
VIKING RULER, LOVETRISTA, KEMPINSKY, DIAMOND LIKE (dam of FOREVER LOVED, ZEPHYRON), and SP CHIMEARA (dam of DE BEERS).
TRISTALOVE is a Sister to SW ANTWERP (dam of VISCOUNT, HELSINGBORG), a 3/4 Sister to DON EDUARDO, PERUZZI (dam of LUCIDA), and the dams of COURT OF JEWELS and PHILIDOR.
This colt was a magnificent type, Dark Bay / Brown in colour with a well-balanced, strong and masculine frame.
A Pedigree that is highly commercial, matching his excellent conformation and a clean set of x-rays and clean scope, this colt was the exact style of horse we had come to NZ to buy.
Sir Patrick was having a booming sale and he wanted to clear the decks with his all his colts so had placed realistic reserves on all his yearlings.
When the colt entered the ring, he was all style and class and we thought we had no chance to own him but that was not the case. After a bidding tussle, the colt was knocked down to
Dynamic for $150,000.
We went back to the stable to take photos and video and Sir Patrick spoke to me asking did we have a buyer for it, to which we replied not at that time.
Sir Patrick asked could he buy a share to race it with GAI as he believed it was such a nice horse all the way through from foaling that he would like to race that colt with GAI and Team Dynamic.
We’re delighted to welcome Sir Patrick into the team. It also gives us great confidence in the product Sir Patrick has produced. Also from Sir Patrick’s position, if the colt hits and wins his good Black Type Races there would be a home for him on the roster at Cambridge Stud.
He was a high-quality colt with an excellent pedigree rating matching his spectacular looks.
Foals and Raised on the magnificent Cambridge Stud and carrying the famous Cambridge Stud brand on his near shoulder, this colt has impressed his vendor enough that he has come back into the colt to race with us.
Imagine telling your family and friends that you own a colt with Sir Patrick by a Champion Sire from the family of a champion TRISTALOVE.
This colt will be made available in the coming weeks.
