Brilliance is described as having many facets from which to shine. Dynamic Syndications wonderfully honest galloper SAVAGE BLAZE, a son of SAVABEEL - Dean Watt's syndicated Cox Plate Winner, from NZ Breeder Tim Bodle’s Whakanui Stud mare HEAT STORM, recorded a dazzling win over the stout and testing 2600m course at the Australian Turf Club's transferred meeting to Gosford on Wednesday 19/12/12.
It is without doubt, one of the most satisfying experiences in the racing industry from a Syndicate Manager and also a Trainers point of view, to map out a programme and to follow it through and to get the result you have planned for - a dominant win !
SAVAGE BLAZE won the Platinum Group CC P/L Benchmark 68, 2600m, carrying 56.0kgs, Margins 1.25 lens x 2.25 lens defeating John O'Shea trained Jaipur Princess and David Payne's Diamond Jim, in a time of 2:44.59 being a Class Record and not far outside the Track Record for the distance. In winning SAVAGE BLAZE earned a 1st prize cheque of $19,880.
SAVAGE BLAZE record is now 36 starts: 6 wins, 4 seconds, 3 thirds & $94,205

We also wish to acknowledge the magnificent training effort of Darren Smith, a “Great Mate” to Dean Watt and our Team at Dynamic and his owners.
Credit all ways round. Darren's team at his stables work long and hard to give Dynamic Owners the great results we constantly achieve on the racetrack.
Credit to the team behind the scenes at Dynamic too, who put in countless hours of work and go way beyond what's expected, to give our owners the enjoyment and information flow to make their experience the best it can be.
Specifically I would like to acknowledge the magnificent ride of Tommy Berry who continues meeting after meeting, week after week, to keep getting better and better. This young man has the world at his feet. He has the potential to be remembered well after his career is finished, as being one of the best riders Australia has ever produced.
Tommy Berry – Outstanding ride
Simply take the time to watch this race and see what we mean. His ability to judge this race to perfection, the tempo, to get our horse to relax and settle soon as they jumped. To follow the right horses, to dash away at the right time, it was a genuine 100/100 effort. In fact, being one of Tommy's biggest fans, we don't believe we have ever seen him ride a race better than this.
Watch Savage Blaze win over 2600m
Tommy, Dean and Darren had agreed to the same game-plan. We felt that the speed would come from 4 of the 5 horses drawn underneath us and we would end up in the one-one or one out-two back. However the big emphasis was getting the horse balanced and into a rhythm early, to help him get the 2600m trip. We knew he would run it out strongly but we were concerned that we didn’t want him to go too hard early and over race as happened last start.
SAVAGE BLAZE was away well and after 150m he was able to get into the one-one position. However the early tempo was a touch strong, and Tommy wanted SAVAGE BLAZE to come back under him and settle off the speed. The horse responded magnificently and dropped his head and hacked away with Tommy ridding him on a piece of cotton such were the pairs affinity with one another. This allowed another runner to cross in front which shuffled him back to a one out three back position.
Tommy guided Savage Blaze around the first 4 corners of the 6 bends they encounter over this trip at Gosford with absolute ease. Then at the 800m a few moves in front started to unwind. Tommy tracked up from back in the field 3 deep but had cover. Then as they steadied again at the 700m Tommy started to ask Savage Blaze to stoke up into the race. At the 600m he took off circling the field and found himself in front before the bend into the home turn as the leaders started to run out of gas.
Tommy kicked Savage Blaze away, dashing clear with nothing chasing a winning hope. Tommy kept Savage Blaze on song right to the 50m where he was kind to his partner over the final stages.
The win was awesome and so was he ride !
Honestly the run was super and the Tommy ensured it was ridden a treat.

It was terrific to be on course with both Darren Smith and his daughter Courtney to experience the win together.

Tommy Berry on returning was full of praise for our Dynamic Syndications / Darren Smith Galloper. He is a nice horse and has the capacity to win further distance races up to 3200m. He is a Saturday class galloper at this time of year. I never got to the bottom of him here. He was a bit lazy and only did what I asked him, he still had more to give me. He may measure up to something like a Australia Day Cup or over even in the Brisbane Winter their Stayers Cup over 3200m.
Being a Savabeel, he is getting better week after week and we trust there is a few more visits to the Winners Circle in store for this wonderful team of enthusiastic, loyal and committed owners that are racing this horse. This team deserve all the fun they are receiving.
As for the plan, wow it was fun to get this win. This was put in place way back in early October. After he won at Newcastle over 2300m on 19 September, he had a short let up to get over a virus and recharge and be ready for the Christmas / New Year period. During this time we identified this race as an ideal target. We could resume over 1550m, then up to 1850m, on to 2200m and then at his peak fitness, up to this 2600m race.
He had 7 weeks between runs and resumed over 1550m at Canterbury under lights. This run had Tommy Berry in the saddle and he ran 2nd in a stunning display.
Then he ran at Newcastle over 1850m and had zero luck under the top weight from a wide draw. He was caught deep, then went forward, couldn't get in went back and still was trapped.
Then last start over 2200m at Warwick Farm.we were happy with him leading into the event and thought he was an each way hope However again, we had no luck trapped wide early, he pushed on to lead but the clip was very fast and being a touch soft in condition, conspired to see him knock up the last 100m. They ran a record and the run was strong. That race made him rock hard fit and ready for the 2600m and he duly saluted !
