As the hammer fell on the final lot being offered at the NZB's 2018 Ready to Run Sale of 2YO's, demand for the progeny of leading New Zealand sires Savabeel was the hot topic at the post sale reviews.
For the 252 horses sold, the aggregate at the close had reached $24,325,500, while the average reached $96,530 and the clearance rate settled at 68%.
$525,000 sale-topping Savabeel colt from Disguised
In the late afternoon of Day 2, Mr Lang Lin of Inner Mongolia Rider Horse Group secured the top price of the day, and the overall Sale, when he went to $525,000 to purchase Lot 432, a colt by Savabeel from Disguised (by O’Reilly).
"Our aim is to buy the best, not just in-terms of racing in New Zealand, but we are also looking to the future for breeding and selling," commented Mr Lang.
"He will be heading to Murray Baker's to train and race, and we'll be looking at a breeding career with him in the future."
Another two Savabeel colts sold on Day 1 for the second-highest equal price of the Sale at $500,000.
They were offered by Ohukia Lodge (as agent for Waikato Stud) being Lot 84 ex Lady Chaparral (by High Chaparral) and Lot 127 ex Maxmara (by O’Reilly). Another Savabeel colt from Pins mare Millililli made $440,000 whilst the Savabeel colt from Pander (O’Reilly) sold for $375,000.
Savabeel, last season made another clean sweep of the New Zealand stallion awards, was the leading sire by both average (three or more sold) and aggregate at the close of selling.
Savabeel provided the top four (4) lots at $525,000, $500,000, $500,000, $440,000.
Savabeel had 4 colts from O’Reilly mares sell for an average of $387,500.
Savabeel had a total of 11 2yo’s sell and achieved an average of $313,182 and an aggregate of $3,445,000.
Savabeel had a total of eight (8) 2yo’s sell for $200,000 or more.
There were 11 2yo’s at the sale who reached a figure of $300,000 or more and five (5) of those were by Savabeel.
