It’s wonderful when a plan comes off. Having been victims of a poorly executed ride at her first start for her new trainer Mornington based
MATT LAURIE, Dynamic mare TASK AND PURPOSE scored a tenacious win in the 6th Race at Hamilton on Tuesday in the bet365 Bm58 1400m on a Heavy 9 surface.
TASK AND PURPOSE (58.0) $3.60 favourite defeated
First Responder (60.0) by 0.4 length with
Centaine’s Profit a further 2.5 lengths back in third.
Acknowledgement goes to young apprentice Matt Cartwright who rode the race perfectly to instruction.
On paper it looked to be only one leader, the second favourite and eventual runner-up First Responder. It had drawn wide but anticipated it would spear across to find the fence.
We chose to be positive early to ensure we didn’t get pushed back onto the fence and go forward to sit at the girth of the leader. From there, if the leader wanted to go harder just match it. If the leader wanted to drop anchor, then do the same.
Then as the field approached the turn wind up the pace and eyeball the leader and turn it into a match race. With the pull in the weights thanks to Matty’s 2.0kgs claims we believed we would get the upper hand.
This is exactly how the race panned out and it was a super effort by Matt Cartwright to ride such a well-judged race. Especially when Matty returned to report that she was never comfortable on the Heavy track and would be much better on top of the ground. The race turned out to be a sit and sprint and the race was exciting and the plan was executed to perfection.
Matt Laurie presented our mare to the races looking a treat and she raced accordingly. Matt has done a terrific job with her this preparation and continues churning out the winners for Team Dynamic. Matt then reported he was delighted for the owners and it was the right result to make amends for their first up unlucky run.
