On Friday night in Macau, a dynasty continued as First Season trainer
JAMES MOORE broke his maiden training victory, by producing his first race winner as a trainer when
SIR CASPUR ridden by Martin Cangas, dug deep and showed courage to hold off his determined competitors, when scoring in a photo finish.
JAMES MOORE is a son of
eight (8) time Champion Macau trainer GARY MOORE.
Gary has recently left Macau to return to Australia and commence training operations at Rosehill.
JAMES & GARY MORE
JAMES MOORE is set to carry on the
Moore Dynasty in Macau, started by his grandfather, the
legendary George Moore - back in the early 90’s.
GARY'S SON'S - David, Nicholas and James.
The Moore family has been such a big part of Macau racing scene with
Gary Moore’s sister Michele (James’ aunt) also a long-time assistant trainer to her husband
Peter Leyshan.
SIR CASPUR looks a nice horse in the making. Friday night’s win was the third victory for the horse in Macau. Two have been on the all-weather surface and one on the turf.
JAMES MOORE was confident in a pre-race interview stating that the best was still yet to come for the son of Australian sire
Jet Spur.
James said: “He still has a lot of untapped potential and he is quiet a good horse on the sand and we look forward to the future with him.”
Congratulation JAMES !
Gary Moore has completed his return to
Australia and has set up his stables at Rosehill
and commenced training in partnership with his son Nicholas (30).
Gary Moore (62), is a son of the legendary
George Moore and he is the younger brother of
HK based trainer
John Moore.
GARY MOORE
Gary closed the book on what had been
a highly successful and colourful career in Asia, to start
a new venture - that brings one of racing's great family dynasties a full circle to where it all began - in
Australia.
Gary won eight (8) training premierships in Macau, but despite his
dominance and the
easier lifestyle, Gary was keen to return to Sydney with his family and applied for boxes, which the
ATC granted to Gary and Nicholas 24 boxes at Rosehill Gardens.
The boys took possession on August 1 and the plan is the boys will train together in partnership.
Gary until recently, had been travelling between Macau and Sydney setting up the new stables whilst ensuring his Macau stables kept firing until the seasons end.
James has now taken over his father’s stables in
Macau whilst
Nicholas and Gary have been in
Sydney, working the horses they have in their
Rosehill boxes.
Many will remember
Gary Moore did train at Randwick in the late 1990’s and at that time,
Dean Watt Bloodstock was one of his many clients. Together we achieved good success. Gary then moved to Macau where he has dominated that racing scene.
The
Dynamic Syndications Team recently caught up with
Gary and Nicholas and we were all keen to re-establish our successful working relationship.
Dean Watt said: “Gary is an absolute gentleman, outstanding horseman, top judge and a team player. Most importantly, he has passed-on these same traits to his sons.”
"Within the trainer's ranks, the Sydney racing scene was already spoilt for choice, with such a high number of high quality horseman available."
"However despite this, rarely does a horseman of Gary Moore's proven international capability and overall class, join our training ranks. He is set to make a big impact at the elite level of racing in the coming seasons."
"He is so user friendly, enjoyable to be around, and such a nice person. Importantly, very approachable and prepared to spend quality time with his owners, something which we desire for our Dynamic ownership teams."
"But the MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT of all is GARY wants to be a HIGH QUALITY BOUTIQUE STABLE with strictly limited box numbers, ensuring he can be a hands-on trainer with every horse in his care, everyday. He has no desire to become a factory and this business philosophy is on the same page as our own, he wants to give our horses and our owners the care and attention both deserve."
Team Dynamic are delighted to be welcoming
Team Moore as a vital member to our elite band of trainers. We are excited about the future and look forward to supporting their stables.
We are also keen to buy yearlings for
Gary’s stables at the 2105 yearling sales and to put together High Quality Racing syndicates for elite clients.
Over the past few days we have also transferred several of our current racing stock into his immediate care.
Apart from being a top bloke,
Gary Moore is an accomplished raconteur and has plenty of stories to tell, but like all good racing identities, the best stories can’t go to print but will be easily shared over a meal.
What is on record is Gary’s outstanding and vastly under-appreciated professional resume.
Gary Moore with his Dad - the Legendary GEORGE MOORE
* He has seven (7) Hong Kong Jockeys' Championships and two (2) Derby wins amongst nearly 700 riding victories.
* In Europe, he won a French Jockey Championship and also a Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe included amongst his successes.
* Then there are his considerable big-race triumphs in Australia.
* It is Hall of Fame calibre across three continents.
After retiring from the saddle, Gary commenced a training career in Australia and then onto Macau, where he has won eight (8) premierships in 14 seasons.
In a recent interview for the
South China Post in HK, Gary said:
"I had my first ride as a 15-year-old and dad said to mum, 'I think we better send him back to school'," Moore laughed. "And then when I stopped riding and went back to Australia to train, my father said 'they'll eat you alive down there'.
"Dad is gone now, but in the weeks before he passed away he told me, “you've reached an echelon that you should be very proud of and I think you are a good trainer”.
"That meant everything. I have big hopes for our family moving to Australia," Moore said.
"It's not something that I have done on the spur of the moment. I asked the Australian Turf Club for boxes 14 months ago. We have planned this for a while now. What I said to the
ATC is that we are moving there to be a Group race-winning stable," Gary said.
“We hope to be competing in the big races against the big numbered stables,
Chris Waller, Godolphin (nee Darley) and Gai Waterhouse. The prizemoney is so great in Australia and I want to be part of it.”
What Gary also is hopeful to do in conjunction with his brother John, is to scour Europe for staying talent to aim at Australia's rich Cups.
"John is one of the best trainers in the world," Gary said of his brother,
"It comes down to his selection of horses," Moore said.
"Every year I go to
Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood and I follow John around the stables. We do a lot of miles and while John is looking at sprinters and milers and mostly younger horses, I’m looking at tried horses for the feature races in Australia."
"My only regret was never having the chance to train full time in Hong Kong," Said Gary.
"I am sure that if I had the opportunity, I don't know whether I would have been able to beat my brother, but maybe you would have been able to see a Moore one-two !"
Moore did get to train a race winner at Sha Tin when Viva Pronto led all the way in the 2010 Hong Kong Macau Trophy.

"That was one of the best days in racing. I've won some of the biggest races in the world but that was a very special day.” He said.
