Some astute buying at the Magic Millions this year saw Team Dynamic land some wonderful yearlings. One of the best buys at the sale was the brilliant colt offered by Coolmore Stud by Champion Sire ENCOSTA DE LAGO from the Danehill mare PETTA GAYE.
Gerald Ryan trains his 3yo full sister WITTENOOM WAY which Gerald believes can win black type over middle distances. Gerald is aiming this filly at the Qld Oaks.
On Saturday she went part of the way to ensure connections she was on target when she started odds-on as a 3yo filly against the older boys and never gave her supporters any cause of concern. The class of her pedigree shone through.
The mare PETTA GAYE has only been covered by ENCOSTA DE LAGO as genetically this is a top mating.
The mare has had 5 to race = 4 winners and 1 placed including Hong Kong gallopers Green Super (3 wins) & Champagne Days (2 wins), Sydney galloper Chula Vista and now Wittenoom Way. Her placed runner is Cheerine Sun.
The dam PETTA GAY is bred in the purple being a ? sister to the Champion mare HORLICKS (17 wins - at Gr1) she is also the dam of Gr1 Melbourne Cup Winner BREW , Gr2 Winner BUBBLE and of the dams of SOLO FLYER, FIUMICINO, MY TUSKER, etc.
The progeny from the mare have averaged $360,000.
We have been deliberately targeting Classic horses at yearling sales in 2012 and we are confident our ENCOSTA DE LAGO / PETTA GAYE colt will be a true Classics contender.
He will be offered for sale later this year after the Brisbane Carnival.
Who knows ? by then he may be the full brother to a Gr1 Winner.
