Dynamic Winner MASTERSTROKE (3yo g Exceed And Excel x Star Plume) returned to the races on Saturday at Kembla Grange after a spell and blew away his opponents with a commanding victory in the Stuart James Memorial 3YO Maiden Handicap 1000m.
Ridden by stable aligned jockey Peter Wells, the Jason Coyle trained MASTERSTROKE looked impressive in the pre-race parade and went out starting $2.50 favourite and never gave his supporters any reason for concern.
MASTERSTROKE has obviously benefited from the spell and during the break became two stone lighter and this has made him concentrate and settle and is a different horse to have around the stables. Always showing ability at his first preparation, the son of boom sire Exceed And Excel was mentally not ready at his first preparation, despite starting several times in good class fields including a second placing at Canterbury, connections always knew they had something there, they just needed to be patient and allow the horse to mature into his terrific frame.
In this race MASTERSTROKE had drawn barrier 4 in a field of 12 runners. He jumped quickly and was in the leading line before Peter Wells allowed the horse to steady and take a sit, one pair back on the fence as they started to approach the home turn. Saving ground around the bend, the horse balanced and started to run on however those in front of him were starting to get the speed wobbles up. Peter didn't panic when it got a bit tight but held MASTERSTROKE up and then, angled out to the centre of the track at 45 degrees to obtain clear running. Last prep the horse would have lost the plot and spat the bit when confonted with this in a race but not now. At the 200m the rider hit the go button and in a blink the race was over. He picked up the leader in a couple of bounds and then went to the line full of running, extending like a horse wanting a lot further. He hit the line under hands and heels to score by widening 2 lengths carrying 59.0kgs over second favourite One More Roadie (57.5 kgs) who led the fence with another 1.3 lengths back to third placed Certain Glory (57.0kgs) and the field spread-eagled behind him over 7 lengths.
He stopped the clock in an easy gallop at 58.37 secs coming home in 34.24 secs and picking up the $9,100 first prize cheque + the $5,000 BOBS Bonus as well.
The way he won was very impressive and suggests there are a few more nice days at the track to come for connections, especially when he gets up to a more suitable trip.
Congratulations goes to trainer Jason Coyle who turned the horse out so well for his first up assignment. Jason has brought our horse through with patience and guile since he was a yearling. He now has a horse with some promise to work with.
This was Jason Coyle's 4th winner in the past week, having scored with Lining at Warwick Farm on 2/1, Scream Machine at Canterbury 4/1, Master Louie at Wyong on 5/1 and now Masterstroke at Kembla on 7/1. Jason's on fire and the stable are performing well. That's his 9th winner (9.78%) for the 11-12 season with another 23 placings from 92 runs.
Also congratulations go to Peter Wells who has been riding the horse in trackwork and rode him with certainty and authority in this event. That was the first time Peter Wells has worn the Dynamic Syndications colours and we can't ask for anymore than 1 start, 1 win.
We would like to congratulate a terrific team of owners in this horse. Many are long time loyal clients and others are new to racing however it's a great mix of excited people:
Dynamic Synd Racing (D Watt), D C I Synd (D Shannon), M Krawczyk, T Johnstone, Spratt Racing Synd (Miss E Spratt, Mr A Spratt and Mrs P Spratt), D Kolo, D Elfes, Dynamic Masterstroke Synd (G Carroll, C Brooks and C Frazer) & G Rassos.
MASTERSTROKE became Dynamic Syndications win number 36 for the 2011-12 Racing Season and became Dynamic's 5th winner in 7 days having having saluted with Platamone Castle, Gallant Spur, Atomic Force, Heaps More and now Masterstroke.
Also Masterstroke became Dynamic Syndications 103rd Individual Winner from 126 Individuals to Race (82%) since our first runner in October 2005.
Well Done To All.
