The start of the 2011-12 Racing Season has been boom period for outstanding horseman Darren Smith at Williamtown (Newcastle). He currently sits on top of the provincial premiership table with 12 wins and 17 Placings from just 28 starters after 3 months.
Darren currently leads the pack in front of Gai Waterhouse (11 wins), Peter Snowden (9 wins), Anthony Cummings (8 wins) and Gerald Ryan (7 wins).
However it's when you compare his strike rate that's where he really excels.
Darren Smith's strike rate at the provincials 12 wins / 28 runners is a massive 42.86% whilst he has 17 placings from 28 runners which is even higher at 60.71%. His winning strike rate is over 12% points in front of his nearest rival.
Darren is currently positioned 5th for the total NSW Premiership: Peter Snowden 29, Gai Waterhouse 27, Chris Waller 25, Anthony Cummings 21, Darren Smith 18.
Rounding out the Top 10 are Kris Lees 12, Guy Walter 12, Joe Pride 12, Gerald Ryan 11, John O'Shea 11.
For the new season Darren Smith has trained 65 starters: 18 wins, 9 seconds, 7 thirds.
Darren's horses have already won a massive $338,870 in prizemoney.
Overall his winning strike rate is 27.69% whilst his place strike rate is 52.31%.
Last season (2010-11) Darren trained 60.5 winners and earned $1,475,410 prizemoney.
