The Teams at Gai Waterhouse Racing and Dynamic Syndications were very happy with the trials of both our horses - 2yo Filly
DELIRIUM and 2yo Colt
ARBEITSAM.
Unraced 2yo filly
DELIRIUM (Exceed And Excel – Red Fever) won heat 5 over 850m in 50.40 secs by a Head x ¾ length. Our filly was trialling for the second time this preparation. At her previous trial she was slow to begin when running a ½ len 2nd in the fastest 2yo heat of the morning.
In today’s heat which was one of 6 heats at the distance and one of two 2yo trials, GAI wanted to make sure she wasn’t tardy away and put Adam Hyeronimus on top and he got her travelling. She was like Zoom Top the way she pinged from the gates. In fact she was so fast she was 6 lengths in front half way through the trial. With the early work and heavy rider aboard, she did start to tire the last 50m but held on strongly for an impressive trail that will set her nicely to debut in the next few weeks.
The name
DELIRIUM is very clever. Out of the mare Red Fever, when you
EXCEED a FEVER (a High Fever), you go into a state of
DELIRIUM.
2yo Colt ARBEITSAM (Snitzel – Work Hard) ran 2nd in heat 12 to his
stablemate DIAMONDS ARE but we are delighted with this result. These boys sizzled around running 41.70 secs.
Diamonds Are won by 5 ¾ len x 7 ½ len. This was easily the fastest time over the 730m trip of the 5 heats this morning. The Open 3yo Fillies ran 41.9, the 2yo fillies ran 42.5, another 2yo colt’s heat ran 42.8 whilst the 3yo Colts ran 43.2.
In running 2nd to Diamonds Are, ARBEITSAM ran a faster time each of the other heat winners.
The winner is regarded by the stable as being special.
He’s already a gelding and has been in work a month longer than our colt. He was wound up for his trial today. He was ready to trial 3 weeks earlier but there was a hold up in getting him named. Also with Gai’s lightweight apprentice in the saddle, Diamonds Are had a
7 kg pull in the weights on Arbetitsam who is still very big in condition. There were 5 heats at the 740m 3 x 2yo’s and 2 x 3yo’s.
Arbetisam will need at least another trial to be fit enough to head to the races. The stable has always had a wrap on Arbeitsam and despite finishing second to the stablemate, it was the way he put such a big margin on the rest of the trial that was so impressive knowing how many lengths improvement we have available to us.
The name ARBEITSAM is a clever one. (Pronounced ARE_BEET_SUM) – it’s German for Hard-Working and since he’s by SNITZEL which is historically an Austrian dish and in Austria they speak German, then ARBEITSAM (ARE_BEET_SAM) is well named.
