Bang ! The
BOOM is on the regally bred 3yo filly from the
Chris Waller stables named
DEFINE as the daughter of Champion Racehorse and Sire
LONHRO from the Gr1 Canterbury Guineas Winner
FINE SOCIETY and ridden to perfection by polished hoop
Tim Clark, announced to race fans that she is an Autumn Black Type candidate with a sizzling win at Royal Randwick on Saturday afternoon.
Dynamic Syndications and our
Team of Owners that race
DEFINE appear to have an above average race filly.
Facing the starter for just the 4th occasion
DEFINE took her career record to 2 wins, 1 second (beaten a nose) and 1 fourth (beaten 2 lengths - a nose from second). She has now earned $111,825.
Purchased from the
William Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale for
$80,000 by Dynamic Syndications, the blue blooded filly looks to have some serious upside and with the looks to match a wonderful pedigree and with the skills of Chris Waller and his team guiding her through her programme, it's an exciting time for her owners.
At Royal Randwick on Saturday,
DEFINE won race 2, the Australian Turf Club Handicap, a Bm 75 for 3yo's over 1300m with Tim Clark in the saddle, recording 1:17.10 (600m 34.81) which stands as a class record.
Sent out a rock solid $2.60 favourite,
DEFINE had been steady at that figure since prices opened on Wednesday afternoon. Both
DEFINE and Tim Clark did not let their supporters down.
The writing was on the wall after a sizzling gallop on Monday morning revealed the filly was flying as she worked over 800m in 54.00, 400m in a slick 23.99 and 200 in 12.12 with the markers out 14 metres. Easily the best of the morning, that work could see her line up with the best sprinters in the land. She had clearly taken the next step up from her desperately unlucky fourth placing when resuming.
On a middle distance campaign for the Autumn, this work has caused a rethink as to what may be her best distances as she may not be an Oaks candidate but a shorter 1600m - 2000m programme looking at races such as the Australian Guineas, Randwick Guineas onto the 1900m of the Rosehill Guineas or 2000m of the Vinery Stud Stakes. One thing is for sure, there are plenty of options available to us and the filly will tell us how she is coping by her body language and overall condition.
However the way she won on Saturday promises to be an insight into what she may do as the weeks progress.
DEFINE and Tim Clark had to overcome adversity in this event as things certainly didn't go to expectation.
Whilst it was always our intention from the draw to be closer in the run (if possible) than she has been in previous events, very few could have predicted that the farcically slow pace the leaders would travel over the first 700m of this event basically turning the race into a sit and sprint affair that certainly did not assist
DEFINE.
Jumping away cleanly with the pack, after 100m Tim allowed
DEFINE to ease out of a line 4 abreast on speed, to take a sit with cover in the one/one position. Inexplicably, the leaders dropped anchor looking at each other waiting for one of them to take up the running - but none did.
This left Miss Alibi (Jim Cassidy) in front on the fence controlling the race at not much quicker than what appeared a working gallop, with Aspen (K McEvoy) at his girth under a stranglehold while Mr. Jackman (N Rawiller) was content to sit 3 deep on the pace again with his horse under a tight rein. As a result they walked through the first 700m of the race.
DEFINE had lobbed into the one/one at the girth of Harry Hotspur (N Berry), whilst I Can Rock (D Thornton) was sitting 3 wide but with cover from Mr. Jackman and Brettan was at the tail of the field.
Approaching the home turn, little had changed and the field hadn't moved as they all thundered around the home turn. Mid-race of this farcical tempo, most would have written off
DEFINE as a winning hope because sectional splits would determine it near impossible to run down the front runners. Let alone for a filly second up over 1300m looking for much further ground.
Fortunately nobody told
DEFINE or Tim Clark.
As they sprinted over the last 300m, Miss Alibi quickly dropped out, leaving Aspen and Mr Jackman off and gone, sprinting to the line.
DEFINE set chase but had little opportunity to go around a runner, Tim had to manoeuvre
DEFINE into the smallest of gaps between the pair in front. Both riders aboard the front runners attempted to roll out and in to close the gap on
DEFINE, however Tim had established his rightful running. The gap was narrow and with whips swinging from both riders in front, both DEFINE and Tim had to be courageous and drive through, fully aware that wayward whips would be banging on our filly.
Half way through the gap
DEFINE copped several smacks across the nose and head. A lesser horse would have pulled out of the battle but
DEFINE responded toughly and in the matter of only a few strides drove through to head both these runners.
Now into daylight, she drew 3/4 of a length in front and had the luxury of her superior speed to coast the final few strides to the post.
Over the next week or two, Chris Waller and Dynamic will reassess our options with the filly and determine a plan of action to see
DEFINE compete in the most suitable races available as we step out way through the programme towards Autumns riches.
Team Dynamic were thrilled so many of the owners were able to be trackside on the day to witness what a competitive filly they own. The scenes in the mounting yard as the filly
returned to scale and then again, in the
Winner's Room were full of fun and excitement. For most of the Team this was their first winner at Randwick. Many had owned horses before without any success before joining the
Dynamic Team whilst for others, it is their first horse.
It's the adrenalin buzz that our owners receive from winning that makes our job so rewarding. To see the happy faces of so many people and to talk with owners, as they recount their own stories and share their personal racing dreams with us, is an exhilaration that reminds us why Dynamic Syndications do what it do.
Congratulations to our Dynamic Team that race DEFINE
