2 Wins in a Row and a Career Record of 3 starts: 2 Wins and $44,910 prizemoney is the current resume for
Dynamic Syndications talented 3yo Filly WEDGIE as she led from barrier to post in an effortless victory at Hawkesbury on Tuesday afternoon.
WEDGIE (3yo Filly Foxwedge x Undercover) was facing the starter against a field of males including the Snowden trained $1.60 favourite Bullet Shot and she gave her peers a galloping lesson.
Astute placement in Race 2 on the programme - the STYLEMASTER PATIOS Class 1 Hcp over 1600m and clever engagement of
jet pilot Tim Clark, ensured the filly would be hard to beat but the ease of the win was astounding.
The margin could have been significantly larger had Tim asked Wedgie to extend at any part of the final 300m but such was the ease she was travelling and the head start she had, Tim looked over his shoulder at the 100m and saw nothing was coming so was allowed an armchair ride to the post at a lucrative starting price of $3.10.
Gai Waterhouse / Adrian Bott and the Team at Tulloch Lodge turned out WEDGIE in fabulous order and she looked the winner in the parade ring and the result followed.
Wedgie hit the ground running (as is her trademark style) and posted a 4 length lead inside the first 100m.
Tim then grabbed hold of Wedgie to settle underneath him and the pair got away with some soft sectionals mid race with the favourite Bullet Shot tracking her, a length behind.
Approaching the 600m Tim increased the tempo and the favourite was immediately under pressure.
As they turned for home Wedgie sprinted and put up a 3-length gap with those following only fighting out minor placings.
The arrogance of the win certainly left the boom of another well and truly broken.
What’s exciting is WEDGIE is just building upon her fitness and looks an ideal candidate to be stepping up over longer trips during the carnival.
Whilst it’s a long way from a Kembla Grange Maiden win first up over 1400m and then, a Class 1 win at Hawkesbury over 1600m, the art of placement and giving horses confidence by winning easily without being under pressure gives us the indication that she hasn’t found her glass ceiling yet.
We are following a similar pattern with
WEDGIE that
we took with our Gr2 Winner SAVAPINSKI in the Spring, by coming through easier options and giving her confidence whilst increasing the Benchmark rating and banking prizemoney, all whilst the preferred distance and races are still ahead of us.
How far WEDGIE progresses this preparation is totally up to her, and we are confident she will be even better as a 4yo however with each start, she is becoming better race educated and building vital foundation fitness.
Despite the easy time Tim gave Wedgie in the run, the clock still revealed that she ran a slick 1:34.85 coming home hands and heels in 33.84 which is mathematically near impossible for backmarkers to catch her - and they couldn’t.
While it’s a long way off and so much can happen,
Gai and Adrian and the Team at Dynamic believe enough of this filly to have nominated her for the 2400m Gr1 ATC Oaks over The Championships which is just 8 weeks away and at a minimum, she is progressing well along the foundation path for such an event - if she makes it there.
Congratulations to our Owners of their fast developing cult-hero named WEDGIE !
