Congratulations to our owners of ARGIE BARGIE (4yo mare Snitzel x Laurinel Argie) on her courageous and very well-deserved win of Race 3 the Oaks Hotel and Resort Class 1, over 1400m on a Heavy Track at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
This was her
Second Race Win, taking her record to
16 Starts: 2 Wins, 5 seconds, 2 thirds.
It was a really big effort from our mare who despite starting a $2.15 favourite, had to
overcome significant disadvantages to claim victory.
On the way to the track,
ARGIE BARGIE scrambled in the truck and
pulled a hind shoe off and suffered abrasions to her hind leg. She needed to pass a veterinary examination upon arrival and then be re-shod.
Then during the race,
the saddle slipped backwards after she jumped and as a result, proved difficult for jockey Matt McGillivray to ride out.
If this wasn’t bad enough,
the mud pulled off both her front shoes in the race.
Originally it was our plan to lead and the mare jumped well however with the saddle issues and front plates being sucked off, the second favourite and ultimate runner-up Baby Merlin rolled to an uncontested 3 length lead, as our jockey was keeping
ARGIE BARGIE balanced through her difficulties.
As they turned for home, we were giving the leader 3 lengths start and a 1.0kg pull in the weights on a Heavy track and our jockey unable to ride our mare in normal fashion.
Matt showed excellent horsemanship as he kept the mare balanced and she rolled up to eyeball the leader.
Matt kept riding smoothly and rode her to the front to record a 0.3 length win.
ARGIE BARGIE who is trained by Chris Munce, was to contest a race at Ipswich on Friday over 1690m which would have suited her much better but the races were washed out but we had this race at the Sunshine Coast as a back-up option, despite the 1400m being considered a bit short.
No doubt
ARGIE BARGIE will be better placed as distances increase.
Well Done to ARGIE BARGIE’S owners as this victory was well overdue and it was about time racing luck went her way:
