Peter Moody had a smile like a split watermelon and expelled a sigh of pure relief when news came through that overseas raider My Ambivalent was sore and would not accept in the
Caulfield Cup which made way for his galloper
Lidari to gain a start in Saturday’s Gr 1 2400m event.

Peter Moody is insistent that
Lidari should have always been included — and
Peter is adamant his French import is a genuine chance to win the $3m Cup.
He remains hopeful too that his first emergency
Brambles grabs a spot through another scratching because along with like
Lidari, he believes
Brambles would be a genuine chance too.
“They were beaten a half-length and a short half-head by the
Caulfield Cup favourite Lucia Valentina in the Turnbull Stakes last start.
Lucia Valentina loomed up to sweep straight past them but they fought back and made ground on her at the end.
They are both fit, in form and on the up,”
Peter Moody stated.
The duo worked side by side together on the course proper Tuesday morning, running 1600m in 1m50.6.
The 6yo entire ran fourth, within a length-and-a-half, to
The Cleaner in the Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley and then was within two lengths of
Foreteller for another fourth in the Underwood Stakes (1800m).
Both were at unsuitably short trips and at weight-for-age.
“He was carrying 59kg in those races, dropped back to 55.5kg for the Turnbull over a more suitable 2000m and just kept coming. He will carry only 53.5kg and is up to 2400m which is ideal,” Moody said.
He meets the favourite 1.5kg better over the extra 400m.
Lidari has won twice at the trip, in the 2012 Derby Du Midi and the Derby Languedoc in France.
“I think he will shake the hell out of the Cup,” Moody said.
Peter Moody has similar confidence in his other possible runner
Brambles.
“He will be unlucky if he doesn’t get a run. He is a Queensland Derby winner (2400m) two years ago and then had two years off with injury.
“He has run second and then won an open handicap over 1700m and then finished within a length of
Lucia Valentina in the Turnbull when his condition probably just gave out in the last 50m.
“He is a big winner over the trip and he would go around with only 53kg, getting 1.5kg off
Lucia Valentina for the Turnbull run. He too is going super. We always thought he was top class,” Moody said.
