IDLE CHAT going on to win the QUEEN OF THE NORTH
The win by
IDLE CHAT in this event has taken her career record to:
IDLE CHAT
9 Starts: 4 wins and 2 seconds and $88,465.
She has won at 900m, 1000m, 1100m and 1200m.
Another important milestone was achieved for
Darren Smith and Dynamic Syndications with this win becoming the
90th Race Win Darren has produced for Team Dynamic !
Dean Watt (Dynamic Syndications) with Trainer Darren Smith - 90 Race Wins together
Way back in mid November, this
Queen Of The North was identified as suitable to aim our mare towards, after
IDLE CHAT had resumed from a spell. That day she put forward a barnstorming 3 length win over 900m at Newcastle. In running the mare was back last in the field and unleashed down the outside on a Heavy Track.
Second up she wasn’t beaten far at Hawkesbury but she got a long way back in running was well out of her ground but the sectionals in the run home were very impressive and the run was full of merit.
Then third up, she went to Port Macquarie and was the best of good things beaten over 1100m when just a Head second, giving 1.5 kgs in weight away to the winner (who was a male) and our filly was checked in the run. She dived at the leader and just miss in Class Record time.
Importantly we were still set on aiming at the Queen Of The North and this race gave her a vital look and experience on the trick racetrack layout.
At her fourth start, she went to Gosford where she had won on debut. On this occasion she was back last again, 6 lengths off the speed over 1100m. She took off four wide at the 600m and circled the field, to win going away by 1.8 lengths.
Next we threw her off the deep end. We sent her around at Canterbury where again from well back in the field ,she unleashed to just miss out running down Stolen Kisses over the 1100m.
That had her just right in condition and crying out to go up further in trip.
We had set the mare to win this most eagerly sought race in country racing and our bonny mare didn’t let any of her supporters down.
As she entered the parade ring, the filly was presented in immaculate condition by Darren Smith and was backed accordingly firming from $3.10 into $2.90 favourite.
The rain fell throughout the day and the track was rain affected from a Dead 4 to a Slow 6 but the way the surface raced it certainly appeared heavier than that. By the time the feature race was run, the riders were all keen to get to the outside fence.
Master horseman Robert Thompson had a plan to try to be a bit closer in the run if possible and whatever happened, he wanted to be the widest runner in the straight.
As the field jumped away, Idle Chat started to drift back and after 100m was third last in the big field but Robert got her balanced and drove through, to settle mid field about 5 lengths off the speed.
Despite the wet conditions, our mare was travelling beautifully on the bit and at the 600m Robert steered her out 5 deep approaching the home turn. He kept the run going as they straightened and Idle Chat was the widest runner.
Our mare was going to the outside fence at the 300m but was badly hampered when the leader rolled over to the fence without sufficient room. Robert had to severely check our mare, to ensure she wasn’t put over the outside running rail. At that stage, her supporters were shocked and disheartened as horses simply don’t recover lost momentum at that stage of a race.
IDLE CHAT is the widest runner (Red Cap) being badly hampered by the horse in front, (who is the eventual runner up) as it rolls out to take Idle Chat's running
It appeared all hope was gone.
However nobody told Idle Chat and Robert Thompson that !
The pair rebalanced and switched back inside that runner and despite being 4 lengths off the lead with 200m to run, Idle Chat produced her now customary whirlwind finish.
IDLE CHAT (now in tight room to the inside) has to push through narrow gap to gain clear running from eventual runner-up
She closed so quickly that she went on to score by a length on the line.
IDLE CHAT is a very promising mare, who is talented on all surfaces but does really enjoy rain affected tracks – in fact, the heavier the better.

being interviewed after the Dynamic race win
Heading into this event, it was always our team’s plan to go to the paddock for a short let-up and come back to be ready to race again in early May. That way she can be aimed at the Winter Racing and if she keeps going the way she is currently, there will certainly be better class races available for our lightly raced mare.
Congratulations to all our Dynamic IDLE CHAT Team:
