This Saturday at Rosehill Gardens a field full of top fancies for the upcoming $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) will face off in one of the traditional lead-up races to the world’s richest juvenile’s feature, the Moet & Chandon Stakes 2013.
Formerly registered as the Reisling Slipper Trial, the $300,000 Group 2 Moet & Chandon Stakes (1200m) is for fillies only and runs alongside the colts and geldings equivalent – the $300,000 Group 2 Spotless Todman Stakes (1200m).
This year the Moet & Chandon Stakes field has attracted just six hopefuls with the top two favourites for the 2013 Golden Slipper back at the track on April 6 scaring off the bulk of the contenders.
Current odds show the Gai Waterhouse-trained Overreach as favourite at a quote of $3.90. She burst into calculations for the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival classic with her six length Widden Stakes success at Rosehill back on February 16.
She races for the first time since that black type victory over 1100m on the weekend with Tommy Berry retaining the ride, Overreach due to jump from gate five.
OVERREACH - Dominant 5.8 length win in the WIDDEN Stakes.
Overreach was beaten by Villa Verde on debut in October last year but will go into Saturday’s race as the odds-on favourite at $1.60 to beat Villa Verde this time around.
Villa Verde has yet to race since the win in the Inglis Debutants Stakes and is the $2.60 second favourite for Saturday’s race. The second pick in the Golden Slipper markets at $5.50, Shaun Dwyer’s Not a Single Doubt filly Villa Verde up the highway from Bendigo, vies for her third successive career win.
She debuted with a win over Overreach in the Inglis Debutants Stakes last October before her easy three length success in a 1000m sprint at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day when overcoming barrier 13 of 14.
Villa Verde’s true Golden Slipper credentials go on the line in the Moet & Chandon Stakes as she sees the 1200m and a Sydney track for the first time, also going in fresh giving the fitness edge away to some of the outsiders here. It’s always a big ask for interstate runners seeing Rosehill for the first time.
The rest of the fillies in the mix are either not currently nominated for, or are at triple figures to win, the Golden Slipper Stakes.
Gai Waterhouse in her traditional spruiking has told all the press that she can’t see her wonder filly OVERREACH being beaten.
Tommy Berry will continue his association with Golden Slipper favourite. Tommy partnered the juvenile to victory first-up when she trounced her rivals by 5-3/4 lengths in the Widden Stakes on February 16.
The filly was nominated for the Silver Slipper on March 2 but was kept fresh for her final lead-up run into the $3.5million Golden Slipper scheduled for April 6 at Rosehill. "I worked with her last Saturday morning and she galloped in outstanding fashion," Berry said. "She's come on since her Widden win and this will have her cherry-ripe for the Slipper."
OVERREACH returns to scale
"My girl is very fit and Villa Verde will need to be on her A-game if she's going to beat us again."
Berry is yet to be locked in for the Golden Slipper ride aboard Overreach but remains hopeful he'll be given the opportunity to partner the daughter of Exceed And Excel in the world's richest two-year old race.
"The owners have shown a lot of faith in me so far. I'm focused on the Reisling for now. Once we get through that I'll start thinking about the Slipper," he said.
Naturally, Dynamic Syndications are keen to see OVERREACH dominate and score a emphatic victory. We have more than a passing interest in the filly.
Firstly she is a ¾ Sister to our Blue Diamond Winner and now exciting stallion prospect REWARD FOR EFFORT. OVERREACH is out of the mare BAHIA who is a Snippets ½ sister to REWARD FOR EFFORT who is a son of EXCEED AND EXCEL.
REWARD FOR EFFORT winning the Blue Diamond
The breeder saw the deeds of REWARD FOR EFFORT so sent his mare BAHIA to EXCEED AND EXCEL thus creating a ¾ relation to our REWARD FOR EFFORT. The mating has produced OVERREACH.
However it gets better for Dynamic !
REWARD FOR EFFORT has an unraced FULL SISTER named MISS EXCELLENCE. Therefore OVERREACH is also a ¾ Sister to his FULL SISTER - MISS EXCELLENCE.
MISS EXCELLENCE is the dam of our MANHATTAN RAIN filly we are currently syndicating.

MANHATTAN RAIN
MANHATTAN RAIN was a brilliant 2yo himself, the same year as REWARD FOR EFFORT won the Blue Diamond, Manhattan Rain won the Sires Produce and ran 3rd in the Golden Slipper. MANHATTAN RAIN was Second on the 2008-09 Australasian 2yo Classifications. He is a ½ brother to super sire REDOUTE’S CHOICE.
Simply you cannot find a better bred filly available for syndication. Importantly she has the looks and conformation to back up her pedigree.
We sought independent valuations on the filly and on the deeds of OVERREACH to date being a Stakes Winner of the Widden Stakes and Stakes Placed in the Debutant Stakes, and odds-on favourite for the Reisling (Moet & Chandon) on Saturday, we were not surprised to hear the filly has doubled in value. If she wins the race Moet & Chandon she will start a very warm favourite for the big one.
If she’s doubled in value already, what would she be worth if OVERREACH wins the Slipper ?
The answer is easy – A whole lot more than her current share price of just
$8,625 for 5% with full owners privileges including your name in the racebook, this is a Guilt-Edged investment for all thoroughbred enthusiasts. Our filly certainly offers a better return than backing OVERREACH at the races !
With just 40% remaining in the filly, success by OVERREACH would ensure the shares get snapped up quickly.
