Talk about timely ! When Dynamic Syndications galloper SAVAGE BLAZE crossed the line in front today in race 6 at Taree, it was a fantastic result for the Dynamic Team of owners and most importantly, it was a great emotional pick up for Savage Blaze’s injured trainer Darren Smith.
In taking out the Independent Gaming Benchmark 55 over 2018m, lumping 59.0kg top weight on a Dead Track, Savage Blaze was very well ridden by Matthew Palmer who has developed a close association with the Darren Smith stable. Savage Blaze brought tremendous joy to Darren who was listening on radio from his hospital bed after being involved in a terrible track work mishap earlier this morning which left him with a broken collarbone, a damaged shoulder and broken ribs.
Savage Blaze had been working well and was on target for this win. The horse is a true middle distance galloper and at his fifth run in this preparation, stepping up from 1600m to the 2018m trip was ideal. However the biggest advantage was being back on firmer footing. He is a horse that is not happy in wet ground and this winter has been unbelievably wet in the hunter / mid north coast region district.
Savage Blaze is more than handy beyond 2000m. Today Savage Blaze took his count to 4 wins with 2 seconds and 3 thirds. His wins have been 1600m, 2018m, 2300m 2400m.
The Dynamic Syndications galloper from the first crop of Cox Plate Winner and now leading NZ Sire Savabeel, has also won at Newcastle and Kembla and also ran 2nd over 2500m at Randwick to subsequent Sydney Cup winner Stand To Gain, so he was very well placed in this event.
Savage Blaze used this run to prepare him for a crack at the Taree Cup on 19/8 where he is likely to drop 5.0kgs off today’s winning weight.
It was particularly uplifting for Darren Smith who was required to “inherit” 20% of the horse recently when a couple owners decided to bail out. So apart from his 10% trainers share, he also picks up his 20% owners share as well.
Savage Blaze now that he is at his right distance, is more than capable of sneaking away with better class races especially on dry tracks and the $60,000 Taree Cup is firmly in his sights.
Congratulations go to the team who race him:
Dynamic Savage Blaze Syn (Mgr: D Watt), Mrs A Edwards, Mrs J Smith, F Welk, D Sanders, R Diblasi, F Andrews & S Kneebone Racing Syn & Harburwil Syn (Mgr: A Williams).
We look forward to the possibility of adding a few more wins onto the resume in the coming months.
