Champion Sire Encosta De Lago continues to perform all around the world and produced yet another stakes winner when his four year-old daughter, Empowering, captured the Listed Sweet Mimosa Stakes at Naas in Ireland on Wednesday Night.
The Aidan O’Brien trained mare produced her second black type victory when she won by a half-length in the six furlong sprint to improve her race record to 14 starts for 3 wins and 4 placings.
Empowering became another Stakes winner for Encosta De Lago
It was a family affair for the Anne-Marie O’Brien owned, Joseph O’Brien ridden mare who further showed the credentials of her champion sire by winning overnight.
Encosta de Lago has had another brilliant season in Australia siring 130 winners for $6.1 million in prizemoney highlighted by 10 stakes-winners.
What makes his feats more impressive is that he is currently the leading sire in the Southern Hemisphere producing black type winners in Australia, South Africa, Hong Kong and Malaysia among others.
Encosta De Lago’s have been showered with plenty of awards this season including the HK Champion Stayer of Year in Liberator who is a full brother to our Encosta De Lago – Miss Helga Filly to be trained by Chris Waller.
Liberator was crowned the HK Champion Stayer of the year recently
He was also the Champion Sire in Hong Kong for 2011/2012 and stands this year at Coolmore Stud at a fee of $82,500.
Included in his black type successes for the year in Australia was winner of the Gr2 Tulloch Stakes, Polish Knight, winner of the Gr2 Ajax Stakes, Niagara and multiple stakes winner, Smokin’ Joey.
At this stage, we have an Encosta De Lago- Petta Gaye colt on our books that has broken in nicely and is due to be trained by Chris Waller.
Our Encosta De Lago - Petta Gaye colt
We have had plenty of interest in our colt but we are planning to send him to the “Ready to Run” sale in New Zealand later this year.
This colt is out of the Danehill mare Petta Gaye, who is a half-sister to Champion filly and multiple Gr1 winner, Horlicks.
Petta Gaye is the Dam of five foals to race producing four winners including the smart Hong Kong Galloper Champagne Days who ran a close up second earlier this month.
Once again, Coolmore Stud recognised this mare as a perfect cross with Encosta De Lago and have mated the pair 4 times together in previous years for continuing success.
