CAPEABEEL a 4yo mare (by Cape Blanco ex Athenri) resumed for her second racing preparation on Friday 18 August and broke her maiden status by
scoring a determined 0.54 length x 3.84 lengths win lumping 59.0kgs and spotting the runner-up race fitness and 2.0 kgs.
This has been a wonderful result for our
Dynamic trainer BRAD WIDDUP who is shooting the lights out as a trainer with incredible results.
CAPEABEEL let connections know she was ready to run a bold race with some excellent trackwork leading into the event and
our team’s pilot Christian Reith claimed he would go wherever she was to start to ride her such was his confidence.
True to his word when we advised Christian we felt Bathurst looked the right race Christian grabbed his saddle and headed up and over the mountains.
However a spanner was thrown into the works when the Bathurst Turf Club earlier in the week advised there had been a sprinkler malfunctioned and by accident had punched 40ml into the home straight which caused it to become a Heavy surface, yet the rest of the track was a good 3. So to make the surface as even as possible, the track staff irrigated the rest of the course, dragging the track down to a Soft 6 then a Heavy 8 from the 450m to the post.
That made the task more difficult, as we were first up over 1208m, having to carry 59.0kgs and knowing we still had improvement for fitness in her.
However after some hard navel gazing and analysing the speed / race map and the form, we felt it was right to have a crack at the race and the decision proved a correct one as
CAPEABEEL broke her maiden with authority and class.
Christian Reith hadn’t gone to Bathurst for a "haircut" and was extremely confident and rode accordingly.
Jumping away swiftly,
Capeabeel landed in front and was quickly joined by runner-up Lugard Road whilst another runner pushed forward on our outside to make a line of three. Christian summed things up quickly and grabbed hold and
Capeabeel slipped back into third spot where he tracked the speed until the 600m. Then slipped some rein, he moved up and eyeballed the leader as they turned for home.
Capeabeel then went forward by a half-length of Lugard Road and that’s when the pair hit the Heavy section and
Capeabeel also started to run out of gas however class and ability took control and Christian kept her balanced and she responded, always holding her margin over the final 100m to claim victory at a lucrative $3.10 favourite.
A big “Thank You” goes to our Dynamic Trainer Brad Widdup and his staff who have stable flying recording winners galore.
Importantly this was a most valuable win for connections as CAPEABEEL is now a winner and has significantly added value to her broodmare residual when she retires for stud.
Free my of Danehill blood,
CAPEABEEL is a daughter of Gr1 winner and Champion European stayer
CAPE BLANCO by Galileo. She is also from a daughter of
Zabeel.
Most importantly, she is a half-sister to Gr1 Qld Derby Winner SHOOTOFF, so connections are confident on type and pedigree she will get out to distances beyond 2000m.
CAPABEEL has now recorded: 4 starts: 1 win, 0 seconds, 1 third.
