OVERREACH is already dominating Slipper betting at
$2.10 with TAB fixed odds and could start
"in the red" if she draws a favourable gate at tomorrow's crucial barrier draw.
Overreach has won the Widden Stakes and Reisling Stakes at her last two starts by an aggregate margin of 10.5 lengths and most exciting is the statement made by her trainer that OVERREACH has actually improved since her last run.
"Her trackwork on Saturday morning was sensational she is going to peak on Slipper Day," the trainer said.
Most of the rival trainers have unhesitatingly nominated Overreach as the horse to beat in the $3.5 million race, regardless of the outcome of the barrier draw.
Gerald Ryan, who is likely to only be represented by a couple of longshots in the big race, said: "I don't care if Overreach draws barrier 35, she is the best two-year-old from what we have seen so far this season.
TAB spokesman Glenn Munsie said Overreach could firm in Slipper betting if she draws an inside barrier.
"I don't think Overreach can get a whole lot shorter than what she is now because it is $10 the field bar her," Munsie said.
"If she draws five or less and the likes of Sidestep and Criterion are out in the 'car park' then she could easily firm to even money or even a touch shorter."
In other Slipper news:
Peter Snowden will decide today if promising
Sidestep will back up from his Pago Pago Stakes win, joining stablemates Guelph and Kuroshio in the Slipper field.
DARLEY Stud-based stallion
Exceed And Excel could be represented by four Golden Slipper runners Overreach, Guelph, Kuroshio and Sidestep.
THE crucial Golden Slipper barrier draw will be held midday tomorrow (Tuesday).
Darley's stable rider Kerrin McEvoy has the choice of Snowden's trio of Golden Slipper hopefuls and wants to ride Sidestep.
"I'd like to stick with Sidestep," McEvoy said. "He is a two-year-old on the rise."
If Snowden decides against starting Sidestep, McEvoy will ride talented filly Guelph.
