The future is in safe hands for the
Cummings Clan, as
James Cummings trained his first
Group One winner in partnership with his grandfather
Bart, when
Hallowed Crown won the $1 million Golden Rose.
HALLOWED CROWN remains undefeated after winning the Gr1 Golden Rose
The fourth generation of the famous racing family has etched his name on the Group 1 honour roll after a thrilling win.
James Cummings
It was
Group 1 win No. 267 for Bart and one of the few elite races not already on his resume.
CELEBRATING their Gr1 Victory is Hugh Bowman, Monica & James Cummings
James Cummings said "One more Group 1 win for Bart, and Group 1 number 1 for me."
"This horse could be anything. The world's his oyster and who knows how far he can go," said an emotional
James Cummings after the win.
"We thought he was one of the best three-year-olds on his return two weeks ago and he had to do it again and he showed he's a star."
"It means as much to Monica as it does to me and the whole team at Gooree," James added.
Hallowed Crown won his first two races as a two-year-old before returning with a barnstorming win in the Run To The Rose last month. While he proved adept in the wet that day, many of his rivals hoped he would come back to them on a drier track on Saturday.
But despite being forced to race wide from the barriers,
Hugh Bowman always looked to be travelling well and proved to strong on the line.
James Cummings, who works in partnership with his famous
grandfather Bart, is the son of multiple Group 1 winning trainer Anthony and the great grandson of
Jim Cummings who began the dynasty.
Hallowed Crown went into Saturday's 1400-metre race unbeaten from three starts but with barrier 14.
Hugh & James
He was at the rear of the field early but
Hugh Bowman kept him under control and made his move late.
The pair forged to the line with a long head separating him and runner-up Scissor Kick with the
Peter and Paul Snowden trained
Shooting To Win (another to make ground from the back) finishing third, 1-1/4 lengths from the runner-up.
"He is a serious colt and hopefully one that takes us all the way to the top,"
James Cummings said.
"He has kept taking the next step and had to make such a sustained run.”
"A Group One win is special for any trainer. This is special for everyone involved to win Sydney's biggest race of the spring."
Hallowed Crown's win was a family affair in more ways than one.
The colt raced by
Eduardo Cojuangco whose grand-daughter and racing manager
Monica recently married James.
Cojuangco watched the race from his home in Manila and called his grand-daughter after the race.
"He was crying he was so overwhelmed," Monica said.
Hugh Bowman stated: "He is a serious colt in the making. I am so grateful to be on him and he is a superstar in the making.
"He just oozes class and presence and his future is untapped.
"He really did knuckle into the fight and I thought the other horse would fold because he did a lot of work.
"This horse has just arrived on the scene and who knows where he might end up. He's a serious horse."
