Newcastle trainer Darren Smith recorded are rare feat on Tuesday when he trained his 80th Winner for Dean Watt’s Dynamic Syndications Team when flashy 3yo
DETTORI made it back to back victories by scoring a decisive win at Tamworth in race 4, the Corey's Catering Plate (Class 1) Set Weights Plate over 1600m when ridden by Peter Graham.
Trainer Darren Smith - 80 Wins for Team Dynamic
Darren Smith is an integral part of Team Dynamic, as apart from being a close friend of Dynamic boss Dean Watt, Darren takes over the training careers of many Dynamic runners that commence their careers in city stables but do not handle the hustle and bustle mentality of the city training regimes.
Darren’s purpose built training facility at Williamtown and quality stables at Newcastle ensure our horses can get access to yards and small paddocks during the day and stables at night, in a rural environment that allows the horses to be in a stress free environment.
DETTORI is the perfect example of a horse that has turned around in Darren’s care.
DETTORI as a yearling at the Sales
Originally in the care of Chris Waller, the horse was finding it difficult to cope mentally with the pressures of a city stable. So we decided to send Dettori to Darren.
The horse was a highly strung when he first arrived but has settled down and found the easier less stressful hype of a small rural stable far more to his liking. He has continued to improve with his education and is now learning the craft of racing.
DETTORI winning his maiden at Port Macquarie - Makes it 2 in a row at Tamworth !
Port Macquarie win
The horse has now had 5 career starts = 2 wins and a close second. With prizemoney and now 2 BOBS Bonuses, he has now earned $30,125 this preparation to date.
Today at Tamworth, DETTORI had originally drawn barrier 19 of 20 acceptances however with 6 emergencies, he jumped from barrier 13 of 14 runners.
A touch tardy to begin and muster pace, DETTORI drifted back in the field but was trapped 3 and 4 deep in a cluster at the tail. The pace was on up front and the field spread out over some 15 lengths. Jockey Peter Graham who had ridden Dettori to victory at his previous start, allowed our horse to balance and not be bustled for the first 1000m. Dettori was comfortable and despite being trapped wide, he had cover.
Then at the 600m Peter asked Dettori to improve and the horse picked up the bit and travelled sweetly around the outside of the field as they swung for home.
Balancing up, Dettori was just 2 horses off the outside fence, giving the heavily backed favourite Henny Fusaichi some 3 lengths start. However in a few strides, Dettori ranged up to eye ball the favourite and for the next 50m the pair fought a good tussle before Dettori dug deeper and drew away from favourite to be eased down and record a dominant 1 ¾ length x 4 ¼ length victory.
No matter whoever the horse, it’s a big effort for any racehorse to break its maiden and follow up with another win at its next start. Many have tried but just a handful are successful.
DETTORI winning again at TAMWORTH
Dettori was one of the most talked about horses of the Magic Millions Sales in 2011 by virtue of his stunning Apache Cat style markings and beautiful but rare pale blue eye. He and we purchased him for $80,000 and is developing a cult following.
Dettori is the first winner for ill-fated stakes-winning Testa Rossa mare Sportivo, who died in 2010 after having just two foals.
Dettori’s second win became Dynamic Syndications
49th Race Win for this
2012-13 Racing Season and our
337th race win overall.
