BORIS BADENOV led from start to finish in race 8 at Doomben on Wednesday afternoon, the Class 5 HAMILTON HOTEL Handicap over 1350m.
This was his second mid-week win in a row at 1350m for Dynamic Duo trainer Chris Munce and jockey Ryan Wiggins.
Boris had been accepted for Saturday at Doomben and would have been hard to beat in that event which was a No Metropolitan Win grade race but drew barrier 17 which would have given him no cover in a race that appeared to have a lot of early speed.
So we elected to scratch and accept for this mid-week Class 5 event where we drew barrier 5 and carried the same 57.0 kgs.
Saturday’s race was a lot easier on paper and it would have been very interesting to how Boris would have handled the jump to Saturday company.
However patience is a virtue and its reward was a win for our top team of Dynamic Owners who race BORIS BADENOV.
In Wednesday event, Boris was on the back foot when the gates opened and he was just a touch slow out but within 3 hops, he was leading with his stablemate Savannah Dream (54.0kgs) holding the fence and the horse that was backed heavily named Sony Legend (55.5kgs) sitting on our outside.
After 200m Boris rolled forward with Sony Legend sitting at our girth and Savannah Dream went back to get the trail.
They stayed in this formation to the home turn where Ryan Wiggins allowed Boris to work into the bridle and he skipped 2 lengths on the field as they straightened.
At the 200m mark Boris Badenov with Ryan urging him along were 3 lengths in front however the hard effort leading all the way was starting to take its effect with lactic acid taking control.
At the 50m mark he was 2 lengths in front but out of gas which set it up for a thrilling finish.
Would he be able to hold out the swoopers?
Not previously known for his bravery,
BORIS BADENOV showed a determination to win and Ryan kept him balanced.
In a driving finish, they hung on to score by a half neck x head.
It’s little wonder he was tired, as they ran home the last 600m in a very slick
34.80 secs off the front, having led all the way.
It was a super judged tempo ride by Ryan Wiggins and a marvellous training job by Chris Munce who had the horse cherry ripe and his fitness was the key under the 57.0kgs.
The win took
BORIS BADENOV Race Career to:
20 starts: 6 wins, 4 seconds, 4 thirds and $92,915 Prizemoney.
Congratulations goes to Trainer Chris Munce who has taken a horse with more tricks than a circus pony and by showing patience and confidence he’s turning the horse around into a reliable commodity.
BORIS BADENOV had well and truly earned the tag “BIG BAD BORIS” however he has been a “GOOD BORIS” his past 2 runs and as a result are 2 mid-week wins on the resume.
In fact,
Chris Munce has now started BORIS BADENOV on 10 occasions for 3 wins, 1 second, 1 third.
He has taken him from a country class horse to a dual mid-week winner and mid –week placegetter and is now entitled to have a decent look at Saturday class events.
Ryan Wiggins has also built an affinity with the highly strung Boris and together they are forming a nice working relationship.
Boris Badenov has been well placed in his races as he has graduated through his grades and will now look at stepping up further in class.
Well done to our loyal group of Dynamic Owners that race BORIS:
