SAVABEEL (by Zabeel) to the thoroughbred industry in NZ is as important to the country's morale as are the
All Blacks for rugby.
SAVABEEL - At Stud
By Champion Sire Zabeel, a son of Champion Sire Sir Tristram, SAVABEEL, was sold by Gerry Harvey at the Magic Millions Sales in 2003 and was syndicated by Dynamic Syndications boss Dean Watt.
SAVABEEL went onto win the Spring Champion Stakes Gr1 and the Cox Plate Gr1.
Sold to Waikato Stud for a record price of just shy of $10 million.
To give our readers the concept of depth and
success SAVABEEL has achieved both sides of the ditch, last weekend was a classic day for the brilliant stallion.
His progeny achieved:
LUCIA VALENTINA won the Gr2 Matriarch Stakes at Flemington.
SOUTHERN SAV won the Gold Club Metropolitan Trophy LR (NZ).
NGARIMU placed in the Hilton Hotels and Resorts Stakes Gr3.
MABEEL won Race 6 Munns The Mans Store Hcp at Te Rapa (NZ)
SPATSIZI won Race 3 Schweppes Hcp at Canterbury.
ENDURO won Race 2 Schweppes Hcp at Morphettville.
GOODSAV won Race 8 Stock NZ Livestock Agents Hcp at Hastings (NZ).
Standing at $100,000 + GST Service Fee in 2015, the super sire keeps achieving incredible results week after week.
Now with
43 stakes winners (10 Gr 1 winners) and 25 stakes placegetters and 312 in individual winners, SAVABEEL continues to set records unmatched by his peers.
Simply –
SAVABEEL is a phenomenal Gr1 sire.
In an unparalleled display, Savabeel sired
6 Gr1 winners last racing season: Soriano, Costume, Pasadena Girl, Savaria, Diademe & Lucia Valentina.
Such a tally equates to
one Gr1 winner for every 37 runners, an astounding statistic that is the benchmark for all other Australasian sires.
He kept the roll going to start this new season.
Savabeel recorded his 10th individual Gr1 winner with son Kawi winning the Gr1 Makfi Challenge Stakes.
With previous
Gr1 champions including Sangster, Scarlett Lady and Brambles, Savabeel is distinguished with 10 Gr1 winners at age two, three, four and five, ensuring the Cox Plate-winning sire provides breeders with all the important hallmarks of his great sire Zabeel and grandsire Sir Tristram.
The most consistent measure of a stallion’s class is his
stakes-winners-to-runners (SWTR) ratio. Again at 9.5% SWTR, there is only one other stallion in all of Australasia who compares favourably.
All told, Savabeel has produced
43 stakes winners, with no less than 14 striking black-type distinction during last season.
The sire’s incredible versatility is also borne out by the array of distances over which his stakes-winning progeny have performed at.
To this end, he has had
8 superlative sprinters, 22 black-type milers, 18 middle distance stars, 10 stayers and has celebrated 2 Gr1 Derby winners, 2 Gr1 Oaks winners and 14 Cup winners.
Saturday’s success by
Lucia Valentina was exceptionally pleasing. Twelve months ago Lucia Valentina captured the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes. On Saturday, she stepped up again and won the $300,000 Group 2 Matriarch Stakes (2000m) at Flemington.
Last in the early stages, jockey Damien Oliver went searching for the outside fence on straightening. Lucia Valentina (NZ) defeated Manageress by a length with Casino Dancer half-length back in third.
The daughter of Savabeel was coming off a midfield finish in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup on October 17.
"She was too classy, Oliver said.
It was the fifth stakes win for the 5yo mare who captured also the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes at three.
Lucia Valentina advanced her overall record to 24 starts: 6 wins, 1 second and 4 thirds & earnings of $1,522,845.
Trainer Kris Lees said the daughter of Savabeel has earned a trip to Hong Kong for the HK Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin in December.
"We thought we need to drop her back and get her a bit of confidence,” Lees said.
"She didn’t get any favours. She had to come around them and with a big weight. It was a very good effort.”
Lucia Valentina was sold by Blandford Lodge at the 2012 NZ Bloodstock Premier Yearling sale for $60,000 NZD.
