Dynamic Syndications are proud to be responsible for supplying the
first winner to recently retired Champion jockey and now racehorse trainer Chris Munce.
Enigmatic Dynamic runner
SPECIFIC CHOICE (Lonhro-Lady Of Choice) was relocated to Queensland recently.
He was transferred out of the stables of Chris Waller to the new stables of Chris Munce.
The transfer has met with instantaneous success.
Chris Munce salutes his first winner when Matthew McGillvray returns to the winners circle with Specific Choice
Specific Choice has been a pin up boy for bookmakers when trained in Sydney. A horse with so much promise and so much potential he always started short priced in the betting markets where he looked well placed in races but simply was not putting in the effort accredited to his potential, infuriating his owners and punters alike, especially when beaten by longer priced and lesser performed stablemates.
The high majority of owners were so fed up with the lack of success that their horse was achieving, that they wanted the horse relocated asap, so a vote was taken and Brisbane was the obvious new home as the opportunities were significantly greater. A further vote resulted in a landslide to support new trainer Chris Munce.
Chris Munce - Now a Dynamic trainer !
Specific Choice had his first start for Chris on the 15th February after a month between runs and was a gallant runner up after trying to lead all the way but was run down in the shadows of the post over 1800m.
With that run under his belt, he had his second start for Chris Munce on Wednesday at Ipswich. This was a relocated mid-week metropolitan meeting, due to the closure of Eagle Farm. The race was a Class 3, 1666m handicap. Allotted 59.5kgs, at Chris Munce's recommendation we booked boom Brisbane apprentice Matthew McGillvray who currently claims 3.0kgs allowing us to carry 56.5kgs.
Whilst Specific Choice is not comfortable on rain affected ground and we were in race 9 on a surface that started the day as a heavy 8 but did improve to a soft 6 by the last race, the fact remained the surface was still chewed up.
The horse was turned out in magnificent condition because he is thriving in his new environment. Starting again a short price in the market, our race plan was simple. From the inside draw and with natural gate speed, be positive and roll forward and control the speed off the front. At the 500m try and steal a break and push the button on the point of the home turn.
It worked an absolute treat. Ridden superbly by Matthew, his ride was an 11 out of 10 display. The horse rolled forward and did control the race and slipped away on the turn, to never be in trouble for a terrific front running win.
This was trainer Chris Munce's first winner as a trainer since his recent retirement from the saddle.
As a jockey, Chris won 3 Group 1 races for Dynamic boss Dean Watt - Cox Plate, Spring Champion Stakes and Caulfield Guineas.
So, it was very rewarding that Dynamic Syndications gave Chris his first winner as a racehorse trainer.
After the race I asked Chris what it had felt like to train his first winner. Chris said he was very excited and it was the first time in a long while that he had goosebumps watching our horse controlling the race and then, dominating his peers in the run to the line.
Jokingly I asked Chris were we all square on the ledger now ?
3 Group 1's verse a Class 3 win at Ipswich ? After a good belly laugh Chris told me I still had a little more to go !
Dynamic also sent another Sydney runner Perplexity to Chris Munce. He has had one start to date for a gallant second at Doomben.
So, Chris Munce has had 3 starters for Dynamic now - Specific Choice 2 starts and Perplexity 1 start, for 1 win and 2 seconds.
Chris only has 14 horses in work at this early stage and rides them all in work which is a huge advantage to us and our Dynamic owners.
Our horses are receiving an incredible amount of attention and they are responding with immediate improvement in form.
Chris was interviewed after the race said:
"It’s going well. I have 14 in work and training the horses is the easy part, I’m used to horses,” Munce said.
"It’s the business side of things that I’ve got to get my head around, but I’m getting there. The boys at Dynamic are helping me with that aspect and my wife Cathy does the business side in my office.
Munce said the prospect of preparing his first winner as a trainer excited him but he did not want to celebrate before his charge crossed the line.
"I had goosebumps all over my arms and down my back but didn’t want to go the early crow, especially with this bloke,” Munce said. "It’s certainly a different feeling to riding them.”
"I think Specific Choice's confidence had been shot by the time he came up to me,” Munce said.
"He is a lovely horse. Great type and has the kindest nature of any horse you’d find anywhere.
"In these easier races we can hopefully rebuild that confidence and I’m sure that win will go a long way towards doing that.
"Dynamic Syndications sent two horses to me from Sydney to Munce’s stables, Specific Choice and Perplexity.
"Perplexity runs on Saturday at the Gold Coast in a class four over 1800 metres,” Munce said.
"He was very good first-up at Doomben too and even though he’ll have some weight on Saturday, I think he can win.”
Well done Chris !
