With all the fluff and bubble surrounding stallions at stud at this time of year, as the big studs marketing machines go into overdrive, spreading the gospel of their latest editions to their stud farms whilst at the same time, singing the praises of their tried brigade, a somber thought to what we lost on the 12th July 2014, confronts those analysts amongst us when we review the stats and ponder the loss of a truly magnificent stallion, that was a breed-shaper in Australia for the past decade.
COMMANDS – a Bay Stallion - Foaled 1996 by Danehill (USA) ex Cotehele House (GB), by My Swanee (GB).
This unsung hero was so good that the marketing machine of international powerhouse
Darley Stud hardly invested a cent advertising this wonderful sire because his progeny’s deeds on the racetrack spoke for themselves.
As the saying goes:
“Lies, Lies and Damn Statistics!”
For the last decade COMMANDS comes out "on top" as the best stallion for buyers to have invested their money into his progeny at the yearling sales.
Whilst that is a controversial statement to many in our industry, when we compare the
“Best Of The Best” over this same decade, the fact is
COMMANDS stacks up better than his peers across the board.
These are some of the facts about COMMANDS over the past 10 years:
GENERAL SIRES PREMIERSHIP – By EARNINGS. This data supports that from a set of modest service fees, he was the
best value sire in Australia when, for all bar last season, he was
well entrenched in the Top 10 Sires in Australia by Earnings. Below we highlight his finishing position beside the season.
2005 7th
2006 7th
2007 6th
2008 6th
2009 5th
2010 3rd
2011 5th
2012 3rd
2013 7th
2014 14th
However as excellent as these results are, based upon profitability for owners and trainers, these stats do not nearly highlight the
greatness of COMMANDS as does the next set of data.
COMMANDS for the last decade has been the GREATEST SOURCE of WINNERS in Australia.
That’s what motivates buyers at the yearling sales.
We want to purchase yearlings by a sire with a proven ability to uplift every broodmare he covers and when the breeder mates the right genetic balanced broodmare to
COMMANDS, the opportunity of the resultant progeny to be successful, is multiplied significantly in the buyers favour.
GENERAL SIRES PREMIERSHIP – By WINNERS. This data again supports the fact he was the best value sire in Australia when for all bar last season he was
well entrenched in the Top 10 Sires in Australia by WINNERS.
On 3 consecutive years COMMANDS was crowned CHAMPION SIRE OF WINNERS.
Below we highlight his finishing position beside the season, the number of individual winners, the number of wins and the position on the premiership table for wins.
2005 92 Winners 11th 167 Wins 8th
2006 98 Winners 7th 161 Wins 7th
2007 109 Winners 2nd 183 Wins 2nd
2008 123 Winners 2nd 221 Wins 2nd
2009 143 Winners 1st 225 Wins 1st
2010 155 Winners* 1st 265 Wins* 1st (* New Industry Record)
2011 137 Winners 1st 217 Wins 2nd
2012 127 Winners 7th 216 Wins 4th
2013 113 Winners 10th 207 Wins 6th
2014 97 Winners 14th 161 Wins 12th
It’s important to note that in the era where stallions are getting record number of mares,
COMMANDS book was as constant as was his consistency. The stats that in the past couple of reflects lesser mare numbers than his peers based upon
“fashion” but his strike rake remains constant.

Astute thoroughbred investors monitor such statistics and keep ahead of the trend when buying yearlings.
COMMANDS was a truly great sire and his loss will be felt for years to come.
His second pen-ultimate crop have just turned 2yo’s and offered sensational buying at the yearling sales in 2015 under the basis of
“out of sight – out of mind” as the hype of new season sires and still active sires takes over the thoughts of those sires now deceased.

Dynamic Syndications purchased a magnificent colt by the sire from the mare KRYPTELON – a Stakes Winner of 9 races and multiple Stakes Placed.
GERRY HARVEY at the sales with colt
He was offered for sale at the Magic Millions by industry leader GERRY HARVEY under his BARAMUL STUD draft.
Bred in the purple, this colt is by the Champion Sire from a Stakes Winner.
His 2nd Dam was Stakes Placed, his 3rd Dam was a Stakes Winner and his 4th Dam was a Stakes Winner.
This is very unusual to find a mare that descends from stakes class horses over 4 dams.
There are less than 1% of the mares in the Australian Stud Book than match this richness of black-type.
Bred on the successful DANEHILL / NONOALCO cross which has produced 4 stakes winners to date:
Tickle My, Mohican Brave, Testamarriage and Trusted Partner.

Conformationally a very correct type, he will continue to strengthen and develop and will make into a top 3yo prospect.

So taken by the yearling he had produced, when GERRY HARVEY found out that DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS had purchased his colt and would be giving the colt to Hall Of Fame trainer and Australian Living Legend GAI WATERHOUSE, Gerry immediately asked to purchase 25% back into this colt to race in co-ownership with us.
Gerry believes in the product he has bred and believes he could become a potential stallion prospect.
With that in mind, Gerry considered this was an excellent opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a wonderful racing prospect.
DYNAMIC SYNDICATIONS in association with GAI WATERHOUSE and GERRY HARVEY will be offering this colt for sale in the coming week at $8,775 per share.
