Lonhro may have lost his Champion Sire by Earnings crown to powerhouse breeding operation Coolmore Stud's sensational sire Fastnet Rock but Lonhro is making a late rally to put pressure on his Darley Stud stablemate Commands for both the Individual Winners title and the Number of Wins title.
It’s an interesting tussle with only seven winners separating the top six horses. Lonhro's “Bread and butter” consistency could well make the premiership title come down to the last meeting of the season.
Commands has been the dominant force in this area for a long time, finishing runner-up in 2007, 2008 and 2009, then Winning in 2010 and 2011. Again he has been on top throughout this season with large numbers of tough, sound and honest race horses.
He sits on 132 winners of 203 races as we head into the final month of the 2012 season with Lonhro on 126 winners of 195 races.
Redoute's Choice splits the pair on 127 winners, with Bel Esprit (126) and Encosta de Lago (126) and Fastnet Rock (125) all grouped together tightly.
It's obviously hard to make ground at this late stage of the season, however Lonhro has sired the winners of 22 races in the last 30 days and has a superior record with wet track runners.
Last season Commands sired 11 new winners during July, with Lonhro siring 8 however Lonhro's crop numbers are up this year while Commands are down a touch, so it's going to be an interesting battle that could go right to the line.
No matter the result, with both stallion's yearlings averaging around the $100,000 mark with Commands on a median of $82,500 and Lonhro $70,000, these two are outstanding sires and keep the winners flowing. Again they have covered themselves in glory in 2012. These two boys are must have stallions for plenty of buyers who want big bang for smaller buck at the top end.
Dynamic Syndications have purchased yearlings this year by both LONHRO and COMMANDS.
Our LONHRO is out of Gr1 Winner FINE SOCIETY and was sold out several months ago.
Our COMMANDS filly has not yet been offered for sale but she is a superb 1/2 sister to Gr1 Winning 2yo APERCU.
Both are in the stable of Sydney's Premier Trainer Chris Waller.
