The buzz has been out for some time in the Northern Hemisphere about the progeny of young
Gr1 Winning Sire ZOFFANY.
European Champion first crop sire in 2015 and the fastest and most precocious 2yo by Dansili.
ZOFFANY
A winner of 5 races at 2 including the Phoenix Stakes-Gr.1 at the Curragh.
However
his Most Impressive race was not any of his 5 wins but rather
his Runner up placing to Frankel in the St. James’s Palace S.-Gr.1, when beaten only ¾ length.
Timeform said of Zoffany: “he’s very smart, and just about the best of the mile 3yo’s after Frankel”
The European’s went hard to secure his first crop with yearlings selling for
475,000gns, 350,000gns, €340,000, 185,000gns, €190,000, £150,000 etc.
He didn’t let them down
siring 5 Stakes Winners and 2 Stakes Placegetters in his first Northern Hemisphere crop and earning his crown as Champion First Crop Sire of Europe.
His 3yo season has kicked off with a bang as well.
On Tuesday at Newmarket, Zoffany produced his sixth Stakes Winner when VENTURA STORM won a 1800m (9 furlong) event.
Ventura Storm gave his now second season sire
Zoffany a nice boost when landing the
Fielden Stakes Listed Race (9 fur) at Newmarket.
The Fielden Stakes was the third win for Ventura Storm.
Ventura Storm
Starting the 15/8 favourite,
Ventura Storm raced in behind the leaders until two furlongs out where he struck the front and stayed on strongly in the concluding stages to defeat Mustajeer by 1 1/2-lengths with Tathqeef a further 1 1/4-lengths off third.
The Fielden Stakes has been used as a traditional path into the
Epsom Derby in previous years however trainer Richard Hannon has been reported stating that Ventura Storm will not go to Epsom Derby and is more likely to head to the
Royal meeting at Ascot in June.
"Ventura Storm is a lovely horse and Ryan Moore (jockey) said he would get a mile and a quarter no problem," Hannon said.
"He liked this sort of ground and we may have a look at something like the Group 3 Tercentenary Stakes at Royal Ascot."
Ventura Storm became the sixth Stakes Winner for Group 1 Phoenix Stakes winner Zoffany (by Dansili), who covered 213 mares in his 4th Season at Coolmore Stud in the Hunter Valley last season at a fee of $8,800. The massive number of mares for the fourth season was based on the outstanding types he is putting on the ground and his First Crop Success in the Northern Hemisphere.
Zoffany has now produced 105 runners; 40 Winners; 56 Race Wins; 96 Placings; 6 Stakes Winners; 2 Stakes Placed; 9 Stakes Wins and 11 Stakes Placings (inc: 3 x Gr1 placed runners).
