Derby Day at Flemington kicked off with a strong win in the
Group 3 VRC Carbine Club Stakes for the
very exciting sire prospect Comin’ Through (3c Fastnet Rock x Mica’s Pride, by Bite the Bullet) . He’s the half-brother to $7million earner CRITERION.
Comin' Through scores in Gr3 Carbine Club Stakes (Yellow jackets).
Retained to race by his breeder, Sir Owen Glenn, the Waller trained Comin’ Through has been handled patiently. He made a winning debut on September 14 at Warwick Farm.
Beaten at his next run, Comin’ Through improved sharply on that performance when he stepped up to the 1600 metres, relishing the big track and added distance to surge home and win by a head in a thrilling finish.
Comin’ Through has won two of three starts, earning over $170,000 and the best is clearly still to come with similarities to former stablemate Kermadec, who won the Carbine Club in 2014.
“He’s followed exactly the same path at this stage,” Waller said.
“They’ve got to keep improving to get to Group 1 level but he’s still quite raw.
“He’s got a lot of maturing still to come and it’s a recipe to suggest he could be a Guineas horse in the autumn and we’ll thoroughly look forward to plotting a path towards that.”
“The autumn comes around so quick, especially these Guineas races. That would be my suggestion.”
Comin’ Through is the eighth foal and eighth winner for the remarkable producer Mica’s Price, who has also left the stakes winners Silently and Varenna Miss as well as multiple Group 1 winner Criterion.
Her current two year-old by Pierro that sold for $750,000 at Easter this year and she has a yearling colt by Fastnet Rock.
