Mick Price has cemented himself as a
King of the Kids, after an unbelievable run of success with his juvenile horses in 2013/14 racing season.
MICK PRICE
The Price stable currently sits at the
TOP of the Victorian two-year-old trainers’ premiership by both number of winners and prize-money earned.
War Point became Mick Price’s 15th individual two-year-old winner this season when scoring on debut at Geelong last Friday in a 2YO event over 1300m.
The victory was made even sweeter thanks to a lucrative
$20,000 VOBIS Gold bonus added on top.
Among his
18 juvenile race wins for the season, the Mick Price stable can boast
seven (7) city wins, three (3) Stakes Class wins as well as a win in the $130,000 VOBIS Gold Elvstroem Classic (1300m) at Swan Hill.
Yet arguably the stables three best juveniles are still maidens.
Cornrow, Jabali and More Radiant all having performed well in Black Type grade throughout the Autumn without saluting.
Mick Price was recently asked to explain the science behind his 2yo success in a candid interview recently.
Mick said it was probably the combination of the
great facilities available at Caulfield, as well as a rigorous approach to selecting and buying yearlings.
“We’re really narrowing our list down to buying the type of yearling that has the physical attributes to possibly make a two-year-old and then train on,” Price said.
“This is the best year we’ve had prize money-wise and when you add in the
Super VOBIS and VOBIS Gold bonuses, as well as the
Black-type races, that’s what it’s all about.
“The minimum standard we want to get to at Caulfield with my horses is that they have metropolitan potential. We’re happy to give them time and the country is a great grounding environment that we use but I think if you’re paying metropolitan training fees, you’re entitled as an owner to have a metropolitan standard horse.”
Price said it was a delicate balancing act when it came to training two-year-olds between having them fit and not working them too hard.
“I’m really against burning out my two-year-olds,” he said.
“We put a gentle two-year-old program in place for the babies to make sure that they aren’t worked too hard but to also make sure that they aren’t left in a paddock like couch potatoes either."
“I’m very conscious that the game is about delivering a return to owners over the long term.”
“We want a horse that will race for three or four years and hopefully go through its grades.”
Dynamic Syndications have been working in with
Mick Price for several years now and together, we have achieved excellent racetrack results.
Our Colt - REWARD FOR EFFORT - FAIRY RAINBEAM at the Sales in January
At the Gold Coast in January, we both had
Lot 812 on our list, a strong, masculine colt by exciting first crop sire
REWARD FOR EFFORT from FAIRY RAINBEAM an
Encosta De Lago mare. Conscious we didn’t want to bid against each other, we joined forces.
So,
Dynamic Syndications purchased the colt with Mick Price to be his trainer.
This colt has been withheld from market until now. We have watched him furnish into a tremendous type.
Strong, masculine and correct with an excellent genetic balance to his quality pedigree, he is the perfect type to attack the same races his sire won as a 2yo in the autumn.
Our Colt at the Pre-Trainers recently
Having broken-in superbly and now having been into pre-training twice for two short educational preparations, this colt has grown and strengthened into a lovely individual.
Eligible for Super VOBIS and VOBIS GOLD along with being paid up for the
