Reward for Effort, Victoria’s leading second season sire will have a 50% service fee increase to $16,500 (inclusive of GST) (up from his initial fee of $11,000 (inclusive of GST).
With his oldest progeny now three year-olds,
Reward for Effort is the leading Victorian based second season sire by earnings, stakes winners and winners.
He is fourth on the overall Australian Second Season Sires List and doing a great job.
He must be doing something right as ten trainers actually sent their own mares to him last season.
Yearling buyers have been quick to recognize his growing success with his 14 Inglis Premier Yearlings averaging $97,500 at the Sale highlighted by a show-stopping colt from Batik that made $380,000 for Supreme Thoroughbreds when secured by China Horse Club.
He was the most profitable of all Victorian based sires represented at the sale in terms of multiple of service fee and his colt from Batik was the fourth highest priced of the sale and single highest priced offering by a Victorian based sire.
He has been a massive drawcard for Victoria breeders covering
880 mares in his first 5 seasons making him easily Victoria’s
MOST POPULAR Sire over this time period and the
MOST PROFITABLE Second Season Sire in Victoria and safely entrenched in the

The Dynamic Syndications purchased son of Exceed And Excel ex Miss Prospect (by Rory’s Jester) won the Gr1 Blue Diamond along with wins in the MRC Blue Diamond Prelude LR. As a 3yo he won the Sir John Monash S. LR W-F-A and as a 4yo the Gr 3 ATC Concorde Stakes.
Reward For Effort had 10 race starts – ALL in Black-Type races, winning 4 and placing twice in Gr3 events, earning $937,200.
Damage to his suspensory as a Spring 3yo cost him most of his 3yo season and a recurrence of that injury enforced an early retirement.
Bred to be sensational, his family has kept on giving with his ¾ sister winning the 2013 the Gr1 ATC Golden Slipper S (1200m).
By world Champion 2YO sire Exceed and Excel from a Stakes winning mare by Champion Sire and Champion Broodmare Sire Rory’s Jester (Champion 2YO and a winner of the STC Golden Slipper S Gr 1 – and sire of a Golden Slipper winner).
Already he's produced
3 Stakes Winners with
Gold Symphony (1st MRC Vain S., Gr.3, MRC HDF McNeil S., Gr.3),
Take Pride (1st MVRC Champagne S., Gr.3) and
Dalradian (1st Inglis Banner RL).
For a stallion of his racetrack ability, commercial appeal, conformation and progeny performance his Service Fee of $15,000 + GST = $16,500 is still well under the odds to comparable sires in the Hunter Valley.
With his VOBIS eligibility for his progeny REWARD FOR EFFORT is ensured another good book of increasing quality mares in the 2016 season.
We wish all breeders who choose to use his services the best of luck with the resulting progeny.
