When
Dean Watt syndicated POLAR SUCCESS in 2002, 8 months later she became the
FIRST GOLDEN SLIPPER WINNER offered to the public for syndication.
It was a major milestone in Australian racing history because it proved that all owners across all areas of life, have the opportunity to win the World’s Richest Race for 2yo’s. Dean proved that you didn't need an Oil Well in the backyard to compete and be successful in the
SPORT OF KINGS.

A $32,000 yearling at the Magic Millions National Sale, purchased from Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud, she went on to win 4 races and $2,171,505 prizemoney. Upon racetrack retirement she was sold for $1.2 million.
A tidy gross return of $337,150 per owner for a modest outlay of just $6,200 per 10% share.
In Fact: Dean Watt and the legendary Bart Cummings are the only people to have won the
"BIG 3" 2YO Races:
GOLDEN SLIPPER, BLUE DIAMOND and MAGIC MILLIONS
The second publicly syndicated horse was 5 years later when the
GAI WATERHOUSE trained SEBRING won the 2008 renewal of the GOLDEN SLIPPER for a group of 10 excited stable owners.
GAI purchased the Colt at the 2007 Magic Millions for $130,000 for Star to syndicate amongst Gai's stable clients.
Sebring
Connections were perhaps fortunate that year as EI (equine influenza) had the industry in lockdown for a large part of the lead in to the carnival and many 2yo’s were unable to be transported in and out of work, which prevented many from going into training. However for those who missed out, the connections of others became the beneficiaries.
SEBRING won 5 races and $2,537,060 before a deal was struck for the Gai Waterhouse trained colt to stand at Widden Stud valuing the colt at
$40 million.
Since then there has been
8 renewals of the GOLDEN SLIPPER.
3 were won by horses retained by their breeders: CRYSTAL LILLY (10), SEPOY (11) and OVERREACH (13).
So no members of the public could race these youngsters.
Of the 5 other winners
PHELAN READY (09) was $150,000 Magic Millions yearling for Bruce McLachlan
PIERRO (12) was a $230,000 Magic Millions purchase by GAI WATERHOUSE
MOSSFUN (14) was a $85,000 Inglis Easter purchase by Emirates Park Stud
VANCOUVER (15) was a $185,000 Magic Millions purchase by GAI WATERHOUSE
CAPITALIST (16) was a $165,000 Magic Millions purchase by James Harron Bloodstock
Of these 5 winners, 4 were
“too expensive” under the previous ASIC syndication thresholds as they stood during this era.
That prevented syndicators buying yearlings at those prices to offer to the public. This threshold was relaxed from the 1st January 2017.
The remaining filly had issues that under due diligence reporting, prevented syndicators from offering such a horse for sale to investors.
In 2017, the
Gary Portelli trained SHE WILL REIGN will fly the flag for horses offered to the public for syndication.
SHE WILL REIGN was a $20,000 yearling by Manhattan Rain x Courgette (by Charge Forward) from the Inglis Classic Sale.
SHE WILL REIGN is another POLAR SUCCESS style fairy-tale, where a group of owners have come together from the four winds to race a cheap horse and have met with immediate success in the equine lottery.
With 3 wins and a second placing and $515,650 in the bank account including Gr2 Black Type, she is a dream come true for her connections.
The Team at Dynamic wish the best of luck to Scott Darby and all connections of
SHE WILL REIGN as they live their dream and attempt to become the 3rd
publicly syndicated GOLDEN SLIPPER WINNER.
Syndication proves you don’t need an oil well in the backyard to compete in the Sport Of Kings.
For a fraction of the cost, owners can have 100% of the thrill and with luck, a horse can change the lifestyle of its owners.
