A 25 year friendship between Dynamic Syndications boss
DEAN WATT and 2012 NSW Provincial Trainer of the Year
DARREN SMITH continues to reap big dividends for both parties and this came to the fore on Tuesday when Darren trained his
80th Winner for Dynamic Syndications as
DETTORI was victorious at Tamworth.
Dean Watt - Tim Clark and Darren Smith
It has been an incredible run for this Dynamic Duo since they achieved their first winner together under the Dynamic Syndications banner. That win was recorded on 14 May 2007 where
COMICAL OPTION won at Port Macquarie.
Comical Option - Darren's first Winner for Dynamic Syndications
In the next 6 years, Darren has continued churning out winners for Dynamic Syndications and our various ownership groups. Darren has averaged 13.3 winners a year for Team Dynamic which is a marvelous feat.
Dynamic's Wyong Springtime Stakes winner MIDNIGHT AT ASCOT - Trainer Darren Smith
To date in this 2012-13 Racing Season, Darren has trained 10 Winners for Dynamic. They are: (Dynamic Win #)
6/8/12 Savage Blaze (290)
19/9/12 Savage Blaze (294)
20/10/12 Excellent Point (300)
19/12/12 Savage Blaze (308)
27/1/13 Full Blast (314)
16/4/13 Nothin’ Doing (326)
18/4/13 Full Blast (327)
25/4/13 Idle Chat (328)
16/6/13 Dettori (335)
25/6/13 Dettori (337)
Interestingly and coincidentally, Darren trained Dynamic Syndications
100th, 200th and 300th milestone winners. They were:
100th SALTATOR 28/5/09
200th EXCELLENT POINT 23/2/11
300th EXCELLENT POINT 20/10/12
It is a successful team effort. Darren cares for our horses whilst Dynamic Syndications map out the racing programmes and jockey engagements, therefore taking the administrative pressures away from Darren so he may concentrate on his horse husbandry aspects and polishing our horses into winners.
DARREN SMITH
Staff is also a major factor and Darren has the benefit of an astute Racing Manager in David Dyson. David was a Steward in the district for many years before changing direction and joining the racing side of the industry. David adds valuable insights and experience to the team. The ground staff and track riders at the stables all contribute to running a harmonious and successful team.
This excellent training feat can’t be underestimated. Previously, Darren has only had one yearling syndicated around him, whilst we are currently in the process of syndicating our second yearling with Darren. A colt by
TALE OF THE CAT ex HOT TICKET.
Darren traditionally receives Dynamic Syndications horses once they have been moved on from their original city trainers stable. To call them cast-offs would be unfair however Darren is turning around horses that have gone past their economic usefulness in town, where costs verse returns prove to be non viable.
Darren has been able to reinvigorate the racing careers of many gallopers with the obvious example being Dual Group 1 Winner
ATOMIC FORCE who arrived from a city stable the winner of just 2 mid-week events and is now the winner of 11 races and just under $1 million.
It was no surprise to Dean or Darren that together, they’re having this success for our owners. Attention to detail and due diligence are the keys.
Darren was the most successful provincial based trainer in NSW in 2011-12 Racing Season being acknowledged by his industry peers in a gala awards evening in Sydney.
One key aspect to his success is Darren has several horse floats and travels the horses to tracks where they can win or perform competitively. Most importantly where races present themselves, into the city tracks and interstate tracks.
The 2012-13 season has been rewarding again for the Darren Smith stables. With 5 weeks remaining in the season, Darren has trained 52 winners including 11 city winners. Darren statistics are:
OVERALL
52 Wins at a Win Strike Rate of 16.88% (1 winner per 5.99 starters)
151 Placed at a Strike Rate of 49.03% (1 placed per 2.03 starters) (2nd in NSW)
Total Prizemoney Earnings this 2012-13 Racing Season: $1.472 million
METROPOLITAN
Darren is currently 18th on the Sydney Trainers Premiership
He has trained 11 Winners at a Win Strike Rate of 11.58% (13th on City Strike Rate)
He has trained 39 Placegetters at a Place Strike Rate of 41.05% (5th on City Strike Rate).
These statistics are very impressive and far outperform many of the high profile metropolitan trainers.
In a business that is based upon earning prizemoney, reviewing statistical data on trainers’ racetrack successes is the Key Performance Indicator. Identifying those trainers whom return the best dividends for owners on the track is vital. Media profile does not ensure racetrack success, its all about hard work and doing the
“extra 1 per centers” that determine racetrack results.
Darren Smith is a top trainer, good friend and vital team member of Dynamic Syndications.
