Powerhouse colt and stallion prospect
DEFCON was content going about his business under the radar compared to his Golden Slipper winning stablemate
CAPITALIST (Written Tycoon) during the autumn however his dominating win first up in the
Group 3 MRC McNeil Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday proved that it’s now his turn in the spotlight.
DEFCON winning the McNeil Stakes
Second to the Blue Army's Tessera and Astern in his first two starts in the Group 3 ATC Canonbury Stakes and Group 2 ATC Silver Slipper,
DEFCON has always shown connections and punters above average ability.
DEFCON winning the Black Opal
A brilliant last to first victory in the Group 3 Canberra Black Opal Stakes was followed by an unplaced run in the Golden Slipper however he pulled up very shin sore after that run. Since then he had a good spell and this has clearly set
DEFCON up for an exciting campaign.
Suffering from a virus when he returned to the Snowden stables, the setback cost him a couple of weeks however he proved he was on target with this super win.
Tuned up with two recent "Snowden style" trials in Sydney,
DEFCON was allowed to settle back in the field by Dwayne Dunn to find his feet before charging home late along the fence.
He zoomed through a narrow opening to take the 1200 metre sprint by a length and a quarter, taking his overall record to two wins and two seconds from five starts with prizemoney topping $342,000.
"His turn of foot is electric,” said Dwayne Dunn.
Defcon as a yearling
"It’s his first time around this way and he’s handled it beautifully.
"There are better things in store for him. They’ll have a lot of fun with this horse.”
A $340,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Eliza Park draft for James Harron Bloodstock,
DEFCON was the most expensive yearling by his sire CHOISIR sold in 2015 and runs for a syndicate that includes Newgate Farm.
"He (Dwayne Dunn) gave him a great ride,” said Snowden.
"He railed perfectly and showed that 300 metre dash that he has… it’s lethal.”

EXCELEBRATION was a champion in Europe and is the best performed son of EXCEED AND EXCEL.
He won 3 Group 1 races at 1600m and would have won another 3 Group 1 races had it not been for the equine freak FRANKLE who he finished runner up to in those 3 Group 1 events.
DEFCON carries the blood of two champion Coolmore sires in Choisir and Encosta de Lago, who have also combined to produce Group 1 winner Japonisme, stakes-winner Frespanol and the Group winning full brothers Proisir and Divine Prophet, who won the Group 3 ATC Up and Coming Stakes last Saturday.
